Field Communications Manager

REPORT TO (FUNCTIONAL): Communications Advisors

DURATION:  6 months (with a 2-month probation period)

BASED IN: BEIRUT (LEBANON)

STARTING DATE: ASAP

 

MAIN PURPOSE:

To implement and coordinate operational communication activities according to MSF standards for the operations in Syria. The FCM aims at building MSF visibility and acceptance for the mission.

ACTIVITIES:

Setting-up an action plan:

Under supervision of the Heads of Mission (HOMs) and with support from the Communications Advisors (CAs) in HQ, the FCM sets-up an action plan tailored to MSF`s operational response and advocacy objectives. The FCM should also liaise and regularly share information on MSF operations with the CA to ensure good coordination of communications.

Content Production:

The FCM produces - or supervises the production of – local, regional or international communications content documenting the situation by collecting/producing data, information, quotes, testimonies, pictures, videos in coordination with the relevant CAs. He / She should be able to coordinate with teams and freelancers on the ground for the collection of audio-visual material if needed. The FCM should also track and archive communications production on the country to build institutional memory.

Media Management:

The FCM maintains close contact with key local media and foreign correspondents. He/she facilitates media interviews, briefs spokespersons and assesses media training needs for key staff. He/she also monitors and analyses the communication lines developed by actors of importance for MSF (authorities, armed groups, other NGOs...).

Media Monitoring:

The FCM produces strategic reports on the local media landscape and regularly reports on new developments. The FCM regularly updates the Heads of Mission on the latest developments on the security/ health situations and running operations. He/she flags to the HOMs any important event affecting the population or the health system in areas where MSF is running operations.

Social Media Management:

In collaboration with the hubs, the FCM oversees and supports the management of the MSF social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and the publication of information on MSF projects.

Networking:

The FCM will collaborate with the MSF hubs in the region who will continue to extend support in the areas of media management, post-production, translation and on the social media management.

EDUCATION:

Desirable: degree in Journalism, Communications, Humanitarian affairs, Political Sciences or related degree.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential: previous working experience of at least 4 years in communications, journalism or public relations.

Essential: previous working experience in producing communications content production.  

Essential: experience with MSF or other NGOs.

Highly desirable: experience in social media community management and monitoring.

Desirable: Experience working in an international environment.

Desirable: Knowledge of the Syrian conflict.

LANGUAGE:

Essential: fluent in Arabic and English (written, spoken, read).

Desirable: Knowledge of French (written, spoken, read).
