Assistant Copywriter Officer (Specialized in English) – NOA – HRR018 – UNOPS Contract - Beirut, Lebanon (PSP Unit)

Organizational Context

UNHCR established digital connections to bring a broad base of supporters and leadership partners closer to refugees and UNHCR’s work beside establishing and strengthening relations with different public and private sector partners in the MENA Region to cover funding gaps through digital and traditional multi-channel outreach.

 

In support of the Leadership Giving (LG) and Individual Giving (IG) programmes in MENA, The Private Sector Partnership unit (PSP) needs to hire a creative/conceptual English Copywriter to lead on the English digital content for UNHCR's MENA Digital Hub and help tell compelling stories about refugees to the world.

 

This includes taking the lead on English copywriting and producing top English content including text link advertisements, banner advertisements, emails, site content articles, social media content landing pages, newsletters and letters besides creating straplines, slogans, body copy, jingles and scripts.

 

 

Functional Statement

Accountability

Conceptually develop compelling and creative campaigns with input from different stakeholders.

Provide timely English digital content for emails, social media, digital and website.

Support the delivery of visual communication materials for the digital team.

Responsibility

Writing and coordination of content briefs for interviews, filming and photography among refugees for PSP MENA and PSP global campaigns and activities.

Liaison with HQ, MENA Bureau and country offices to support content gathering as well as gain feedback and approvals for all PSP MENA original content.

Research and writing (English) of PSP MENA online platforms and web pages.

Writing and direction of PSP video production (350+ videos per annum)

Research, writing and editing support to PSP Donor Relations teams (Campaigns, appeals, reports and impact content)

Research, writing and editing support to the Islamic Philanthropy (Zakat) teams (Appeals, reports and impact content)

Research, writing and editing support to the Face 2 Face teams (video production, visuals, pitch cards)

Proofreading and editing of a wide range of material (telemarketing scripts, emails, reports, press releases) to support PSP MENA colleagues.

Speech writing, news writing, blog writing, and writing of social media content to support PSP MENA campaigns, engagement and activities.

Support the delivery of visual communication materials for the digital team.

Take ownership of copy briefs and answer them to a very high standard.

Perform other related duties as required.

Essential Minimum Qualifications and Professional Experience Required

University Degree in Communication or Sociology, Journalism, Copywriting, Public Relations or another associated field.
Minimum 1-year relevant experience with graduate degree as a Creative Writer, conceptualizer or as a web content writer.
Experience of graphic design and video software is a plus.
Strong agency background in campaign development and creative copywriting
Must be able to distil complex technical/scientific information into effective campaign-level messaging and develop unique value propositions (experience with new product launches preferred)
Experience in presenting creative work in a visually compelling way to clients and team.
Experience with e-mail marketing best practices is a plus
Experience with optimizing content for today’s SEO requirements.
Advanced knowledge and experience in writing and producing content for several digital media channels and digital advertising requirements.
Experience in writing engaging social media content.
Some experience with online marketing and lead generation.
A deep understanding of consumers and what motivates them online.
Experience in adopting content to needs of different target audiences, excellent stylistic skills and experience in drafting different types of materials in English (human-interest stories, interviews, landing pages, social media etc.).
Humanitarian Experience - cause oriented.

Excellent overall writing skills in a number of different styles/tones and impeccable spelling and grammar.
Familiarity with creative processes and techniques.
Expert writing skills, editing and proof-reading abilities in English
Ability to write concise, attention grabbing and hard-hitting copy that puts the message across, especially for digital.
Keen attention to detail, high regard for quality are essential.
Great research, organizational, and learning skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
Excellent knowledge/familiarity with the cultural intricacies of the Arab/Gulf countries.

Knowledge of best practices for digital creative, segmentation, dynamic content, testing methodologies, deliverability.
