Food Processing and Safety Consultant

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

SIF will support vulnerable women and men in targeted vulnerable Lebanese communities to sustainably improve their skills, capacities and livelihood opportunities in line with WFP’s Lebanon Country Strategy plan (2018-2021).

The overall objective of this project is to contribute to the poverty reduction and Food security in vulnerable area through integrated sustainable development activities focused on improving women’s access to the labor market.

PROJECT MODALITIES (Food, Cash, Capacity Strengthening, Technical and Specialist Services): Cash, Capacity Strengthening, Technical and Specialist Services

MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  • Market based food and food related vocational trainings in SDCs
  • Business related life skills training
  • Placements in internships and on-the-job training in private businesses
  • Job referrals and job counselling

 

LOCATION / REGION: Hayy el Selloum, Bourj El Barajneh, Tarik El Jadideh

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a curricula (100 hours) in English and Arabic on food Processing techniques and food safety on multiple topics such as but not limited to :
    • New recipes that are demanded in the market, such as cheese and jam
    • Distillation and essential oil;
    • Dried wild herbs;
    • Olive tapenade production;
    • Virgin olive oil production dried wild herbs;
    • New jam recipes;
    • Ready to eat food/spreads;
    • Apple vinegar;
    • Pizza sauce, tomato paste, and other vegan food items.
  • Develop a clear outline of sessions, a clear schedule and timeline of trainings based on the number of beneficiaries per session which we will provide when selected.
  •  Include packaging, marketing and food safety sessions in all the trainings in order to provide the beneficiaries with the set of skills required for food processing.
  • SIF will also provide a training on solar drying of vegetables, fruits, and herbs for participants living on building rooftops or ground floor. This training will also include sessions on food safety to be provided by Food Processing and Safety Consultant. As part of the food safety training, participants will be trained on basic food safety and nutrition standards. It will include sessions on food safety and control, notions of personal hygiene, pest control, cleaning and disinfecting as well as safe handling and storage of food.
  • Develop pre and posttests to assess the capabilities of the beneficiaries and to monitor their progress.
  • Develop Skills assessments to monitor beneficiaries’ practical knowledge.
  • Train 100 beneficiaries divided on multiple cycles on the developed curricula.
  • Monitor attendance of beneficiaries and report any issues to the responsible SIF focal point.
  • Provide weekly reports to the FSL focal point on the progress of the beneficiaries, attendance, pending issues and planned activities for the upcoming week.
  • Ensure a minimum of 80 % success rate is achieved by the beneficiaries.
  • Ensure participants are able to initiate an Income generating home based enterprise after the training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Master’s in Food science, Nutrition or any other related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in this field, preferably in delivering trainings.
  • Languages: Fluent in Arabic and English. French would be an added asset.
