Education Coordinator - North

ROLE PURPOSE: The Education Programme Coordinator will oversee the planning and implementation of the Education projects in the North Field Office and ensure that the education intervention is of a high technical quality.This includes continuous capacity building of non-formal education educators (i.e. Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN), Community-based Early Childhood Education (CB-ECE), and Retention Support (RS) educators) through systematic trainings, supervision, and coaching. The role holder is expected to pay particular attention to aspects linked to child protection and participation, ensuring that rights of all children are respected at all times in a safe and friendly learning environment. The Programme Coordinator is expected to dedicate 50% of work time in the field.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Education and Child Protection Programme Manager

Staff directly reporting to this position: 2 Education Officers

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme Implementation Management

- Plan and oversee the timely implementation of Education projects in the North.

- Communicate programme objectives and activity plans to SCI partners.
- Support partner organizations in implementing operational work plans per programme sites.
- Roll out the capacity building plans for SCI partners.
- Provide educators in Save the Children (SCI) and partners’ learning centres with the relevant curricula, including objectives and expected learning outcomes and ensure they are receiving the necessary support in implementing their lessons.
- Contribute to donor reports and to the development of case studies.

Capacity Building and Staff Management
- Identify staffing needs and participate in the recruitment processes for the Education programme in the North.
- Support the educators recruitment process and lead on it when relevant.
- Willing to be trained as a Master Trainer as per programme needs and to deliver Training of Trainers for SCI and partner education staff, as well as delivering trainings for field level stakeholders including caregivers and community members when relevant.
- Provide SCI and partner Education staff with capacity building trainings on classroom observations and coaching sessions for educators, including the facilitation of Teacher Learning Circles (TLCs).

Representation and Coordination
- Represent SCI in coordination meetings and forums in the North and be an advocate for children’s right to access quality and inclusive education.
- Build and maintain positive relationship with (I) NGOs, local governance structures, and relevant UN agencies. Monitoring and Evaluation

- Support the monitoring and evaluation process of Education activities against projects’ logical framework.
- Produce timely reports on capacity building activities for SCI and partners, highlighting challenges, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Perform continuous visits to SCI and partners programme sites to ensure that educators and other education personnel are appropriately supported and qualitative programme objectives are achieved.
- Ensure strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality and a child centred approach and to act in the best interests of the child.

- Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, Code of Conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities, and other relevant policies and procedures.

-  In agreement with the line manager, perform other duties within reason (in line with your skills and experience).

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:

- At least five years’ experience in education

- Prior teaching experience is a must
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Science, or other related field
- Good understanding of quality education, including child-centred, inclusive and active learning methods
- Good planning and reporting skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Prior proven track record in successful coaching is an asset
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English. French language skills are an asset
- Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work in an insecure volatile context
- Excellent MS Office skills
- Experience working at community level with a wide range of stakeholders
- Prior experience as a Master Trainer and/or in capacity building or coaching of educators;Prior experience in a similar position with a local or international NGO
