Psychologist - Emergency Response

This position has been created as a response to the emergency situation in Beirut areas that were affected by the latest explosion.

The psychologist will manage and provide mental health and counseling services for children and staff  

Key Focus Areas

Strategic and operational

(Any additional task strictly related to the role and necessary for the implementation of the activities.)

  • PROVISION OF SPECIALIZED PSYCHO-SOCIAL SUPPORT
  • Provide psychological support through individual sessions involving the child and his/her family at the request of caseworkers.
  • Discuss the protection scheme related to cases requiring psychological follow-up with the social workers of the department.
  • Assess the child’s psycho-social wellbeing and needs through counseling, interviews, and tests.
  • Conduct home visits in certain cases, if necessary.
  • Provide support to the caseworkers in handling resistance or lack of collaboration by families and children.
  • Provide self-care to the team responsible for the response.
  • DEPLOYMENT TO EMERGENCY RESPONSE
  • In case of emergency (related to COVID-19 pandemic, etc.), be quickly deployable to provide timely support to the households and individuals impacted, and to refer them to relevant services;
  • Participate in sensitization activities at the community level, in coordination with community volunteers and the Health team, on protection issues but also on COVID-19 related precautions measures.
  • COORDINATION WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ACTORS
  • Contribute to the protection mainstreaming in activities implemented by other teams at the base level through the provision of protection training;
  • Attend Protection related working groups (PWG, CPWG, GBVWG) and provide updates of main trends to the line manager and Protection Technical Advisor.
  • REPORTING
  • Provide weekly and monthly activity reports to the line manager;
  • Report on any trend related to protection and propose adaptation measures.
  • Accomplish any other assignments given by supervisors or the PM.
  • SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION
  • Ensure the best practices in B&Z safeguarding measures and child protection policy as well as code of conduct
  • Conduct refresher training and coaching session on CP and safeguarding to the protection and no protection staff whenever needed.
  • Refer to Functional Supervisor in HQ for technical support and advice
  • Fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a similar level as needed.
  • The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project’s needs.
  • Experience
  • 2 years of job experience relevant to the function, in a comparable environment with non-governmental organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience in delivering tasks according to tight deadlines.
  • Professional experience in case management (CP/GBV)
  • Good skills in anticipating problems and developing solutions; - Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to deal with administration and documentation.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to rural field locations.
  • Knowledge of English written and spoken.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel as well as accounting & other database competencies.
  • Working knowledge of a range of donor rules and regulations.

Competencies

  • At least 5 years in humanitarian assistance and 2 years of international relief and emergency experience in the same position,
  • Experience in conflict/post-conflict contexts, with experience in supporting emergency responses, access and security analysis, and management
  • Good expertise in protection, with a focus on CP/SGBV
  • Ability to set high standards for quality of work and quick adaptability and flexibility in a stressful environment
  • Ability to manage human, technical, administrative, and financial resources.
  • Facilitating and encouraging open communication in the team, communicating effectively.
  • Previous achievement in Project Proposal Writing.
  • Perfect knowledge of all the phases of the PCM.
  • Ability to work in partnership with local organizations and under stressful conditions.
  • MS. Proficiency (word, excel, etc.)
