WASH Officer

ABOUT THE STRUCTURE

Solidarités International is an International NGO working with vulnerable populations, mainly victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters. Specialized for nearly 40 years in the coverage of vital needs, S.I. takes charge of emergency and reconstruction programs.

With respect for cultures and close to the people, Solidarités International implements its programs by combining its skills with those of its employees and local managers.

Solidarités International's teams, made up of around 270 expatriates and nearly 2200 local employees, are today present in 18 countries in Asia, Middle East, Africa and Caribbean where they are particularly committed to fighting diseases related to unsafe water but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods.

 

List of main tasks:

Implementation & Supervision of Water & Sanitation Activities

  • Under the supervision of the WASH & Shelter Activity Manager, take part in logistical and administrative organization and the planning and preparation of activities.
  • Produce technical files (BoQs, Scope of work, Drawing etc.) according to the identified needs, standards and available resources.
  • Ensure the construction and/or the maintenance of construction works using Solidarities International tools (in particular) and according to Solidarities International internal rules.
  • Take part in the identification of sites where work is to be carried out.
  • Carry out technical assessments of identified sites and make recommendations for appropriate tailored interventions.
  • Train daily workers and other hired skilled laborers.
  • Carry out work according to technical guidelines and estimates.
  • Provide the WASH & Shelter Activity Manager with requests regarding material, tools or service needs on regular basis according to the needs.
  • Supervise contractors and engage with communities, and ensure the best use of available resources
  • Manage the supply of worksite materials as instructed by the WASH & Shelter Activity Manager by collaborating with the logistics department.
  • Take part to the evaluation of the technical competence of contractors/plumbers.
  • Establish safety and security measures for each activity and ensure that these rules are respected by the workforce under his/ her supervision and by the population.
  • Provide training to all relevant beneficiaries (health facility workers, daily laborers, beneficiaries) to ensure the safe and appropriate use of facilities installed.

 

Reporting/communication /representation

  • Report to the WASH & Shelter Activity Manager the progress of the activities he/she is in charge of according to Solidarities International reporting template.
  • Report back all information or problems linked to his/her activity, Solidarities programs or safety issues.
  • Give information to the beneficiaries about SI mandate, activities, results and about external actors and represent SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL when necessary
  • Facilitate, build up and maintain good relationships with the beneficiaries.
  • Communicate with other SI activities and departments for the daily activities

 

The WASH Officer may be asked to drive SI cars and respecting the driving policies set by the logistic department and attached to this document.

The above list is a non-exhaustive one, nor limitative. You could be asked other responsibilities and tasks within the framework of your job on demand of the WASH Activity Manager.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Degree in Water engineering, Civil engineering or Plumbing
  • Previous experience in Water supply works
  • Previous experience in humanitarian field is preferable
  • Fluent spoken and written Arabic
  • Strong technical skills
  • Basic reporting skills
  • Strong social and communication skills
  • Calm, diplomatic, understanding problem solver and patient
  • Basic knowledge of office software’s
  • Knowledge of the implementation zone (Beirut area)
  • Valid driving license
  • Keep his/her monitoring tools and files archived in the Solidarities office, accessible to his/her WASH & Shelter Activity Manager.
  • Take part in the drafting of project progress reports under the supervision of the WASH & Shelter Activity Manager.
  • Take part in seminars and workshops related to the carrying-out of activities and to project objectives when requested by the WASH & Shelter Activity Manager or WASH Program Manager.

SI WILL OFFER YOU

A salaried post: 1,160 USD – Basic salary

Vacation: 1.5 Paid Leaves/month
