The PSS Assistant has the responsibility of leading psychosocial support activities at the field level and ensuring participation of beneficiaries, mainly boys and girls, and partners in all phases of project implementation. He/she will build the capacity of and empower the community to provide vulnerable children and caregivers with PSS, Child Protection (CP) key messages and information on services and identify and refer vulnerable children and caregivers.
He /she will receive support, supervision and technical guidance from the child protection team leader/coordinator, capacity building officer and program Manager.
Main Responsibilities:
- Identify safe spaces to provide PSS activities that adhere to the quality checklists for center-based and outreach activities shared at the inter-agency level.
- Identify vulnerable children and caregivers in need of PSS in line with inter-agency selection criteria.
- Deliver PSS to children and caregivers.
- Provide psychological first aid (PFA) for children and caregivers, refer vulnerable children and caregivers to PSS, case management and other needed service (legal, wash, basic assistance…)
- Ensure Community Based Groups identify and refer children and caregivers in need of case management to CP case management and other services needed.
- Continue to provide support to community based groups to conduct sensitization sessions and events on child protection and GBV key messages in a participatory and empowering manner.
- Ensure that all children and caregivers accessing PSS and identified as being at high risk are referred to focused PSS and case management.
- Support the logistics and procurement processes needed for the implementation of PSS and Community Based Groups’ activities.
- Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors, local authorities and other international and local stakeholders.
- Assist in the organization and implementation of awareness sessions for children and adolescents when needed.
- Ensure the proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies) during PSS activities/awareness sessions (attendance sheets, parental consent, referrals, observations etc.…)
- Participate in training as required (e.g. Safe Identification and Referral, Dealing with Disclosures, PFA, PSS, CM)
- Support the inclusion of boys and girls with special needs.
- Schedule the activities with children and caregivers producing daily, weekly and PSS activity schedules.
- Perform any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the CP officer.
- Reach out to the most vulnerable children and their families to provide information about Early Childhood Development and refer to needed services in the area of implementation.
