WFP Project Coordinator

I. INTRODUCTION

NGO's Background Information

The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014. LRI started as a project launched in 2010 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) Office of International Programs (IP) through the support and funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). LRI's mission is to restore Lebanon's native forests and to instill commitment to reforestation and wildfire prevention and response, through capacity building of local communities and organizations.

LRI is currently carrying out reforestation and forest management activities in the framework of the Food Assistance for Assets (FFA) supported by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project aims to extend forest cover and fire protection through reforestation and forest management activities while improving the livelihoods of Lebanese and Syrian men and women in vulnerable communities in the North, and build local capacity and developing best reforestation, forest management and eco-tourism practices.

The project is implementing a community-based reforestation, forest management program in the North Governorate of Lebanon, in Minnieh-Dunnieh and Akkar districts.

II. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

LRI is seeking a full-time Project Coordinator for a period four months. The Project Coordinator is expected to coordinate project activities with the different site supervisors and report back to the Project Manager on project progress.

The Project Coordinator is expected to perform the following duties:

  • Support in the development of a detailed implementation plan with timeline.
  • Coordinate with the Field Officers on daily basis to ensure proper implementation of activities.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to check on work progress and work quality.
  • Track the implementation of the activities and report the progress in each cycle on daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Coordinate when needed with municipalities to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Report all accidents, issues on site to the Project Manager.
  • Support the project manager in project-related tasks and coordinate with donors during project manager’s absence.
  • Prepare all needed PRs and make sure all tools, equipment and seedlings are delivered to the sites on time.

III. REQUIREMENTS

The Project Coordinator should possess the following competencies, skills, and experience:

  • More than 2 years of experience in project coordination and field work.
  • Basic knowledge in mapping, GPS and Google Earth use.
  • Experience working with Lebanese rural communities.
  • Experience in environmental issues.
  • Strong analytical, communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent reporting and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel outside Beirut.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic.
