Regional Psychologist

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization that delivers impartial medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from health care in over 70 countries.

 

MSF has been working continuously in Lebanon since 2008. Today our operational teams work all over the country delivering quality,  free of charge medical care to those who need it.

 

MSF Lebanon Branch office is part of the MSF international movement. Our team is composed of 20 full time employees based in Beirut and Cairo working together in the areas of international field recruitment, communications and medical operational support.

 

From Lebanon and Egypt, we work regionally and contribute globally to MSF’s medical humanitarian response.

 

Médecins Sans Frontières, an international medical and humanitarian association founded in 1971, provides medical assistance to communities faced with crises endangering their survival. These crises typically take the form of armed conflict but also include epidemics, natural catastrophes and even exclusion from healthcare. The French section of MSF is present in some thirty countries worldwide.

 

MSF is currently looking for a:

 REGIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST FOR ARABIC SPEAKING COUNTRIES

 INTERSECTIONAL PSYCHO-SOCIAL CARE UNIT - MENA

You are in charge of providing psychological support to MSF field teams in the MENA region and beyond (Arabic speaking colleagues).

 

Reporting to:

Hierarchical: Coordinator of the Psycho Social Care Unit located in Amman, Jordan

Technical: Psycho-Social Care Unit based in Paris (OCP)

 

Principle duties of the position

• Carry out regular field visits to Arabic speaking MSF missions to conduct consultations for MSF staff according to needs  
• Provide psychological support online  and upon request for national staff
• Carry our field visits in case of critical incidents
• Pro-actively support the elaboration of a regional strategy to improve support to MSF staff (external consultants, others NGOs, etc.)
• Draft reports with recommendations after field visits   
• Increase the understanding of stress management of managers and leaders within the organization  (stress definition, reactions, consequences, identification of troubled or at risk people)
• Prepare monthly statistics

 

Profile :

• Master degree in clinical psychology
• At least two years of professional experience in this field
• MSF field experience (or with another NGO) is a strong asset
• Good knowledge of psycho-trauma and psychological debriefing
• Experience in stress management and conflict management
• Diplomatic, excellent listening skills
• Organized, flexible and autonomous
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Multi-cultural experience, strong team spirit
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Willingness to travel frequently according to needs
•  Mandatory: Fluency  in English and Arabic (written and spoken)

 

 

Terms of employment

 

• Based in Jordan or Lebanon, with frequent travel to Arabic speaking missions

• 6 months contract with potential extension
• Salary : Level 10
• Starting date : ASAP
