Short term Basic Literacy trainer

Introduction

Secours Islamique France (SIF) is a Non-Governmental Organization of international solidarity based in France. Founded in 1991, SIF is an apolitical neutral organization whose objective is to provide immediate and long-term support to vulnerable population affected by natural disasters, armed conflicts and other types of crisis.

SIF has been present in Lebanon since 2012, implementing projects aiming at providing assistance to the Syrian refugee populations affected by the conflict in Lebanon as well as Vulnerable Lebanese host community. Through child protection projects, basic assistance and food security, SIF contributes to the improvement of the well-being of the children and their families.

Aiming at strengthening the Social Development Center (SDC) and NGOs capacities of response to the increasing needs, and in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the UN coordination system, SIF strategy intends to follow up and respect the recommendation of the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan 2017-2020.

 

In view of the operation scale up, SIF is currently recruiting a Short Term Trainer for Basic Literacy to provide classes in Beirut area (Mazra/Chiah/Burej Camp…).

The BLN trainer will be liaising with Child protection project supervisor, or his/her designee.

 

  1. OBJECTIVE OF THE Trainer MISSION

 

General Objective

The general objective of the course is to teach around 10 caregivers in Beirut area Basic Literacy.

Specific objectives

 

  • Offer learning experiences of the highest standards possible, irrespective of gender, ethnic background, age or disability
  • Provide basic Literacy Curriculum and help develop it based on beneficiaries needs.
  • Strengthen the sense of self efficacy and self-esteem; to acquire cognitive, emotional and specific competences
  • Create an environment where beneficiaries develop a sense of belonging, an experience of mutual sharing, and a possibility of building new relationships
  • prepare regular evaluations and tests to assess progress of trainees.
  • Provide basic Literacy sessions for 120 minutes per session
  • Liaising regularly with Child Protection Project supervisor to guarantee the smooth operation of the program

 

 

  1. Reporting mechanisms

 Report directly to the Child Protection Project Supervisor. S/he will submit the following reports at the end of the training sessions:

  • Provide a weekly lesson plan.
  • Submit by the end of each session a report regarding the attendance, lessons delivered challenges faced, solutions found. SIF template should be used.
  • Prepare activity sheets and lesson plans for every session.
  • Register daily attendance.
  • Submit a monthly progress report according to the template provided by SIF
  • Submit at the end of the cycle a report measuring the quality and outputs of the course (SIF template to be provided).
  • Report immediately on any identified Protection cases.

 

 

 

  1. Qualifications of the Trainer

Person qualifications

  • Acquisition of teaching diploma.
  • Relevant experience of at least 1 year with national and international NGO.
  • Awareness of Human Rights and Refugee International Laws.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills are very important.
  • Excellent command of Arabic language (speaking and writing), English is a plus.
  • Experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues, proven problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Rigorous, and polite.
  • Respect of SIF values and mandate.

 

Ethic and professional practice

  • Always respect of beneficiaries’ confidentiality
  • Openness to working with refugees as well as with Lebanese beneficiaries.
  • Always respect of beneficiaries’ confidentiality.
  • Address needs and requests in a professional way.
  • Report any incident or act that causes any harm to beneficiary or to others.
  • Always interact with children with the presence of their parents or caregivers.
  • Always respect a refusal of treatment.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Always respect a refusal of participation.
  • Respect and promote SIF’s Policies and report to your line manager any non-respect of SIF’s policies amongst the teams or partners.
