ACTED is looking to hire a detail-oriented English language editor who can work for two months with a team of 7 researchers developing regular reports and a final integrated document profiling transforming urban conditions in six of the Beirut districts severely affected by the Beirut port blast.
Functions
The Editor will:
- Review several times, as they are developed, six neighborhood reports for document structure, language fluency and clarity, grammar, spelling, and style;
- Point to dates/facts that should be referenced, checked, or reviewed for accuracy and/or contradictions in the flow of ideas and/or information included in a report;
- Confirm all submitted writing is original;
- Ensure text meets tone and character count outlined by report template;
- Maintain a coherent style for the totality of the 6 neighborhood reports;
- Make corrections and suggest edits to the document;
- Organize and improve document layout, particularly insertion of maps, etc. So they are coherent across the reports;
- Meet proofreading deadlines
Qualifications and Experience
- Masters or equivalent in relevant experience
- Advanced degree in writing
- Academic experience preferred
- Excellent grammar and communication skills
- Proficiency in basic computer programs, such as Microsoft Office

- Excellent written and verbal English skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and external relations;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Strong written expression and basic computer skills;
- Independent, adaptable, flexible and hard working.
