COUNSELOR EDUCATOR

Main Purpose

Perform counseling and/or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve their pychosocial condition.

Accountabilities

• Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients
• Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
• Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary in order to propose the best support available.
• Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it,
• Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counselors, preserving confidentiality
• Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
• Take active part in trainings, supervisions/intervisions and support the activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.
• Discuss difficulties and problems in counselling with supervisor.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities

• After receiving the required training, performs basic counseling for the mild mental health cases and refer the moderate and complicated ones to the psychologists
• Document clearly in the patient file the treatment plan and any action taken regarding the management of the cases and the follow up on the missed appointments.
• Work closely with the social workers to refer cases that need other types of services that are not provided by MSF.
• Collaborate with all department to ensure an olystic approach to patients
• Attends meeting and training as proposed by the Organization in order to engage in a continue development of his/her skillsAttend regular meetings with the psychologists to discuss the cases referred to them.
• Attend and participate actively in the multi-disciplinary team meetings.
• Assist the HP in the awareness sessions on different MH topics.
• Partecipating with all the team in implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the focal point as per SGBV protocol so that they receive the necessary treatment.
• Respects all protocols and measures put in place for CoVid prevention and promote the respect among patients and colleagues

Requirements

Education

Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma.

Experience

1 year experience essential. Experience with NGO desirable.

Languages             

Arabic. English is an asset
