Health Promoter Supervisor

MSF introduction:

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people in 70 countries who are affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation and our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality.

Our project focuses on providing medical and mental health care to Migrant Workers in the country.

Responsibilities:

MSF is looking for Health Promoter Supervisor to implement and supervise educational campaigns according to MSF values, standards and procedures in order to increase awareness of the targeted population and to promote prevention and treatment of diseases in the project area,  in close collaboration with the Health Promoter/Information Education Communication Activity Manager and Project Medical Referent. In addition to the supervision of the Community Health Workers the Health Promoter Supervisor will also supervise the Social Workers in the project.

Accountabilities:

  • In close collaboration with the Health Promoter manager, participating in the definition and update of the Health Promoter/Information Education Communication strategy and identifying indicators in order to monitor Health Promoter activities, results, and achievements. Supporting the Health Promoter manager in organizing and carrying out assessments and research on the impact of Health Promoter activities and identifying and reporting the constraints, difficulties or strength points of the Health Promoter strategy inside and outside the medical structures in order to reinforce the link between the communities and the project.
  • Providing support in selecting and developing quality pedagogical communication strategies towards the community. Planning information campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness among the targeted population.
  • Informing, according to protocols, community members and identified risk groups (prisons, army, sexual workers, etc.) about health-related issues.
  • Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF's medical and non-medical staff.
  • Identifying key actors (local authorities, local NGOs, traditional healers, formal or informal authorities) and being the focal point for the networking in order to support the dissemination of health information of the target population and be the point of reference for the relation and networking with these subjects.
  • Organizing, training, and supervising the Health Promoter team in terms of planning and organizing their work, supporting, evaluating and coaching of personnel, collecting reports and reporting the activities of each health worker and regularly visiting communities that are under his/her responsibility.
  • Supervising, in close collaboration with the HR department, the HR associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
  • Ensuring cleanliness of Information Education Communication (information, education and communication) areas.
  • Collecting and reporting to the medical team any information linked to the health situation of the population and the patient.
  • Ensure good functioning of the different components of the department (Health Promoter and Social Workers) and interdisciplinary work between other departments in the project (Medical, Mental Health) for an holistic approach.
  • In close collaboration with the line manager, participating in the definition and update of the Social Worker strategy and identifying indicators in order to monitor activities, results, and achievements. Supporting the line manager in organizing and carrying out assessments and research and identifying and reporting the constraints, difficulties or strength points of the Social Worker strategy inside and outside the medical structures in order to respond to the beneficiaries needs.
  • Planning social assessments at community level including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase the understanding of the target population’s needs.
  • Support the social workers in elaborating the plan of action according to the beneficiaries need and insuring close follow up of complicated/sensitive cases (e.g. Protection, legal…)
  • Identifying key actors, service providers, possible partners according to the project’s need and being the focal point for the networking in coordination with the line manager in order to support the development of the referral pathways.
  • Organizing, training, and supervising the Social Worker team in terms of planning and organizing their work, supporting, evaluating and coaching of personnel, collecting reports and reporting the activities of each health worker and regularly visiting communities that are under his/her responsibility.
  • Participating in the collection, analysis and monthly reporting of data related to the Social Worker department to increase the understanding of the target population’s needs as well as the impact of the activities.

Qualifications:

Education: Essential diploma in social sciences or education/pedagogy / or social work

Experience: Essential working experience in MSF or other medical INGO (1 year minimum) in health promotion activities, training-education activities or social work activities.

Skills: French language is a plus.
