Call for freelance facilitators and trainers for Nonviolent Communication (NVC)

This call aims at creating a trainer pool (or roster) of experts who we can then contract to conduct on- or offline capacity-development activities throughout the year 2021.Hence, we request interested trainers and facilitators to provide us with information regarding their experience, availability and financial expectations, etc.. For introductory-level activities we are mainly looking for local and Arabic speaking facilitators and trainers. For advanced level we are also open for English-speaking facilitators.

Potential formats and types of engagement:

We are looking for facilitators who are willing to conduct some of the following:

  • multiple-day in-person workshops as soon as this is possible and feasible again
  • regular (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly) practice sessions (on- or offline)
  • series of evening-sessions or trainings (on- or offline)
  • weekend workshops (mostly offline)
  • hour- or day-long training on specific topics like for example parenting with NVC, NVC in schools, NVC mediation, restorative circles, etc. (on- or offline)

In general, we are aiming at increasing the number of off-line workshops for the year 2021 but seek for applications from facilitators who are flexible in terms of offering online sessions when/if necessary due to Covid19 restrictions or other reasons.

Once we have identified a number of facilitators to potentially conduct NVC-workshops or other activities for/with forumZFD we might either reach out immediately or throughout the year with the intention to enter into a) short-term contracts (for example for a specific multi-day workshop) or b) framework agreements with a certain number of training days/hours during 2021.

General objectives of the NVC workshops

The specific objectives, content and format will be defined for each of the capacity development activities. However, based on forumZFD’s mission of transforming conflict, they will generally aim at increasing the capacities and confidence to address tensions and conflicts and at increasing compassion and understanding in society and across divides.

  • NVC and conflict transformation in communities/ society
  • NVC for teachers, in schools and other educational institutions
  • NVC for parents and care-givers
  • Mediation with NVC, restorative circles and other practices

Approach:

We try to offer interactive formats and experiential learning based on the challenges that participants are facing in their lives. Hence, we expect facilitators to be able and willing to adjust the sessions to the needs of participant and the dynamics and issues that come up while keeping the pre-set objectives in mind. We appreciate facilitators who create safe spaces for participants to work on their real-life issues and who are willing to use tensions that come up in the group to practice NVC.

In advanced workshops we also expect facilitators to give participants the opportunity to co-facilitate and to support them through feedback and reflection.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience practicing and sharing Non-violent Communication (following Marshall Rosenberg).
  • Strong expertise in applied conflict transformation
  • Experience of working in conflict-affected countries and regions (ideally Lebanon and the Middle East)
  • Experience of holding space in tension and conflict (i.e. transforming potentially arising conflicts in the workshop and using those processes for learning)
  • Experience with experiential learning and interactive learning
  • Flexibility and strong facilitation skills
  • Ideally understanding of the Civil Peace Service and its approaches to conflict transformation
