Communication Officer

Background: The Communications Department at International Medical Corps is looking to expand. We are looking for a Communications Officer to assist the department in documenting the work of International Medical Corps in Lebanon. We create compelling and engaging content for social media, document human interest stories and keep our donors and supporters informed of our work.

Job Purpose: The Communications Officer’s primary role is to support the Communications Manager in developing communications and media materials, and to facilitate communication flows to ensure that internal and external stakeholders receive the information they need in a timely manner

Main Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the implementation of the communications and visibility plans of all the current grants.
  • Gather content from different field teams in Lebanon and create a master document where assets are saved according to date/location and grant.
  •  Maintain a calendar of donor communications deliverables which is accessible to program and communications colleagues.
  •  Assist in creating engaging specific communication and media materials such as videos, infographics, newsletters, brochures, and other communications products. This will include creating the content and     suggesting the communications format for it.
  •  Coordinate with all the field teams and work closely with them on all field activities and site visits whenever needed.
  •  Coordinate with external stakeholders such as agencies and independent filmmakers, and photographers.
  • Arrange all logistical operations with suppliers in coordination with the logistics department; this will include: finding new suppliers in the market, raising work orders and requests for quotations, and following-up on the payment, and finalizing the contract.
  •  Uploading and filing content in an organized manner, including interviews, transcripts (in English or Arabic or both), photos, videos and any other relevant materials on International Medical Corps’ systems.
  • Assist in implementing the Twitter weekly plan; this includes: maintaining the master document, posting and scheduling the posts, and suggesting new content to post, every week.
  • Monitor trends on social media tools and grow traffic to the social media pages.
  • Assist in finalizing written content for proposals, internal and donor reporting.
  •  Assist in organizing events (virtual or otherwise), workshops, and meetings, developing related promotional materials and documenting the events and activities.
  • Monitor media trends in the country and identify potential media opportunities, including suggesting media outlets and pitching stories. It will also include creating a media database of local and regional media outlets and journalists who cover the healthcare sector.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Essential Experience : 

  • Minimum two years' experience in communications with NGOs working in the humanitarian or development field

Essential Competency :

  • Proven experience in scheduling and posting on social media. 
  • Demonstrated creativity and documented immersion in social media. 
  • Experience in editing simple videos for social media use using Adobe Premiere or other editing packages.
  •  Experience and skills in design software such as Adobe, Photoshop, and InDesign. 
  • Experience sourcing and managing content development and publishing.
  •  Experience effectively communicating information and ideas in written and visual formats. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office required with graphic design and photo/video experience preferred.
