Water & Habitat - Architect (Beirut)

EDUCATION REQUIRED

Minimum: Bachelor degree Architecture

Preferred: Master degree Architecture

Alternative: Other Engineering degree is considered if 3+ years of demonstrated professional experience in the field of Architecture and Building’s Modelling.

Industrial Certificates such as:

Architecture Software (e.g. Revit, SKETCHUP or equivalent) (Mandatory)

CAD Software (e.g. AutoCAD, ArchiCAD or equivalent) (Mandatory)

Project Management (e.g. PMI or equivalent) (An asset)

Safety & Security Protocols for Buildings. (An asset)

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Minimum 3 years of professional working experience in the private sector after graduation from university.

Working experience in an interdisciplinary and international environment is a strong asset.

Working experience in systemic activities like organizing trainings, setting up maintenance software, etc. is a strong asset.

Working experience in places of detention is a plus

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Experience (design/site supervision) with construction projects (buildings renovation), and/or electro-mechanical applications (water/sanitation systems) are mandatory.

Knowledge of software development is considered a strong asset.

Breadth of experience in a complementary discipline like HVAC, Healthcare Facilities, places of Detention, Water/Sanitation Facilities will be considered.

Demonstrated ability to take data-driven, scientific decisions in uncertain and rapidly changing environments.

Wiling to work in an interdisciplinary team of non-technical backgrounds and team of engineers ranging from civil engineering, electrical engineering, to mechanical/hydraulic engineering. Contributing as the focal point for civil/architectural if required.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WatHab in Detention Team

As member of the WatHab in Detention Team, the WatHab Engineer 1 is required to work in places of detention to improve their condition and ensure their resilience. While the WatHab Engineer 1 is expected to follow construction projects, s/he is also expected to understand the international and ICRC guidelines in prisons and respect them along the entire project cycle. S/he also expected to think systemically by proposing/implementing systemic activities that include preparing technical trainings for interlocutors, implementing maintenance software, identifying relevant tools, etc.

Assessment and Planning

Carries out field assessments focused on technical, social, and institutional aspects.

Develops his/her own elaborate understanding of context and humanitarian needs in Lebanon.

Analyses collected information and writes comprehensive assessment reports.

Proposes independently projects to address evidence-based humanitarian needs and as per strategy.

Provide inputs to draft the department’s plan of action and participate in the systemic thinking of the program.
 
Project Design and Project Management

Develops structured concepts of intervention to address needs and writes comprehensive project proposals.

Produce 2D/3D modelling to visualize the project proposal and define the adequate building’s flow design if required.

Performs detailed calculations and prepares technical designs and documents (bill of quantities, drawings, technical specifications, etc.) for engineering projects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Prepares tender and contractual documents in close collaboration with Logistics and in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations.

Manages contractual relations with contractors in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations.

Supervises project implementation and ensures compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building codes/standards, taking corrective action if necessary.

Manages relationships with relevant authorities throughout the project cycle and ensures handover of projects to the beneficiary.

Support the centralized production of technical documents of field colleagues to ensure ICRC standards of quality.
 
Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

Monitors and evaluates projects as per agreed monitoring strategy independently, reports challenges and proposes proactively corrective measures.

Creates and maintains up-to-date project files in electronic databases (WPA, PAM, TeamSpace, SharePoint, etc.) as per institutional and departmental information management guidelines.

Maintains precise financial follow-up and ensures timely financial forecasting on project level.

Contributes to institutional reporting and prepares specific progress and project reports.
