Basmeh and Zeitooneh is a registered Lebanese organization, committed to serving refugees and vulnerable communities in Lebanon, through four community centers across the country. The organization runs educational, relief, livelihoods, and protection programs, and aims to serve as an inclusive and supportive focal point for the entire community.
Basmeh & Zeitooneh takes part in a three-year research project, coordinated by Sussex University, that aims to shed light on economies of displacement.
The Research has four related objectives:
1. To investigate economic activity amongst those affected by long-term displacement.
2. To highlight sustainable economic activities; both those that already exist and future opportunities.
3. To analyze the barriers to inclusive and sustainable economic activities
4. To help build the skills of displaced people to communicate their own perspectives on sustainable economic practices.
Basmeh & Zeitooneh seeks to implement a baseline survey in specific neighborhoods of Tripoli, Beirut, and Bekaa during summer 2021 and is looking to recruit data enumerators to execute this.
In the period mid-June until the end of August (exact dates to be determined), the lead data enumerator will:
- Conduct approximately 100 baseline surveys (the number will either increase or decrease slightly based on the total number of enumerators recruited) in either Tripoli, Beirut, or Bekaa. KOBO will be used for data entry, and the surveys will either be done face-to-face, or over the phone, or both, depending on COVID19 national restrictions, security concerns, and accessibility to the location;
- supervise the work of 5-10 other data enumerators and ensure their correct data entry and back-up of data, and assist in any issues that may arise.
- Compensation will be on the basis of days worked, at the rate of 30 USD/day.
Major Activities:
- Receive training on data collection tool KOBO and sampling
- Receive training on the survey to make sure all questions and their responses are clear and well-understood
- Conduct the baseline household survey either in person or over the phone, and actively take part in the ongoing random sampling of respondent households (training will be provided on this task).
- Enter data correctly in KOBO and make sure to check work for accuracy after every respondent
- Check the work of other data enumerators and report any errors or duplicate entries to the Line Manager on a daily basis
- Back-up information at the end of each day (training will be provided on this task)
- Take photos during work activities for later use on B&Z’s social media platforms (adhering to the project’s media guidelines)
Strategic :
- Make sure to hit the weekly target of x baseline household surveys
- Aim for both genders to be equally represented in the survey
- Ensure high-quality work of all data enumerators
Reporting: Report to Line Manager at the end of each working day.
- Any other tasks or responsibilities assigned by the Line Manager.
Key Performance Indicators:
- 25-30 surveys conducted at the of the week (the number will either increase or decrease slightly based on the total number of enumerators recruited)
- 100 surveys conducted at the end of the contracting period (the number will either increase or decrease slightly based on the total number of enumerators recruited)
Delegation of Authority:
- The lead data enumerator is responsible to make sure his colleagues are working efficiently, and are meeting KPIs.
- The lead data enumerator should address issues/obstacles that arise during data collection (in coordination with center coordinators and the line manager.
- The lead data enumerator is the main focal point for other enumerators in the area
- The lead enumerator will make sure all information is backed up at the end of the day
- The lead enumerator will make sure that all errors are flagged on a daily basis.
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate diploma
- Proven previous experience in data collection
- Work experience in the humanitarian field is a plus
- Experience in post-conflict or vulnerable contexts is a plus.
- Experience in a supervisory role, preferably in data collection in the field

- Fluent in Arabic and English
- Previous experience in using KOBO, although not required, is a plus.
