Terre des hommes-Lausanne is in search for a qualified Psychologist Team Leader – Beirut.
Job Purpose / Main Functions:
The psychologist Team Leader works directly in the field with street connected children and youth (exposed to the worst forms of child labour, street working children) and with their parents and caregivers. S/he provides a technical support to the staff of the local partner in relation to the implementation of key activities, including but not limited to focused PSS and case management. Promotes, facilitates, and encourages the achievement of the action plan objectives for the FPSS components of the project. Acts as Tdh focal point in the community and represents the organization. And facilitates, collects, and reports information regarding the overall situation of the street connected children.
The psychologist Team leader also makes sure that the Tdh strategy and policy are implemented in his/her field. Identifies, networks, and connects child protection resources to the child, community, and community structures. Supports and assists in the network mapping of resources specific to the locations he/she operates in. Promotes and ensures aa well the principles of child participation are respected within the Tdh project and with identified child protection resources. S/he informs his/her direct supervisor about any difficulty met in Tdh activities implementation. And ensures a strict adherence to Tdh Child Protection Policy at all times, including respect for confidentiality and child centered approach, and acts in the best interests of the child.
Under the management of the Drop In Center Manager, the Area Team Leader, and the Senior Technical Supervisor for MHPSS, the Psychologist Team Leader performs the following tasks:
Duties & Responsibilities / Context (Tasks):
Team leadership:
- Coordinates with the partner’s field staff team and ensures that objectives are completed in a qualitative and quantitative manner in due time.
- Liaises with the Drop In Center Manager for the activities, team’s schedule, needs and challenges.
- Collects all data, reports, achievements, challenges…etc. from the partner’s team and communicates them with the Drop In Center Manager.
- Keeps track and follows up on M&E deliverables.
- Coordinates with the Senior CP MHPSS Technical Officer.
- Coordinates with the local authorities and other stakeholders in the areas we are working in when needed.
Provision of psychosocial support:
- Provide MHPSS activities to children and parents.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of services provided to beneficiaries, in support of quality monitoring and effective project management processes, at all times ensuring the confidentiality of beneficiaries’ identifying information.
- Contributing to monitoring of protection trends and supporting activities for the assessment of the beneficiaries’ wellbeing and impact of activities.
Psychological counseling activities for the beneficiaries:
- Provide psychological care for the high risks’ cases of street connected children and youth and setting up assistance suitable for their specific needs.
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers to ensure the child's wellness and progress.
- Set up effective methodological tools for the psychological assessment of children taking into account the context.
- Assess and report the most serious cases which require specific actions or responses.
- Ensure a proper / relevant referral according to existing pathway.
- Support the partners’ facilitators in organizing and running dedicated activities for the street connected children and youth.
- Participate / provide technical support in formulating sensitive themes and support strategies for the children.
Data management and reporting:
- Creates and updates the child's psychology file in order to report or track his/her psychological progress.
- Write technical reports when necessary to support the case management team (Reports to UPEL for example etc..).
- Manages file and stores data, ensuring the confidentiality of the information collected and the services provided.
- Supports implementation of monitoring and evaluation exercises, when required, in order to understand project impacts and outcomes, and report challenges encountered in the implementation of the project.
- Develops the monthly and annual activity reports.
- Provides an analysis and follow-up of the outcomes of the intervention projects with suggestions for adjustment where necessary.
Coordination, Representation & Networking:
- Establishes a service mapping and ensure a relevant and regular follow-up including all actors of the area of intervention.
- Coordinates with other service providers in order to ensure the access of individuals to services.
- Supports timely information sharing regarding challenges and needs at the field level.
- In general, makes sure that a positive and professional image of the Foundation is conveyed. In particular, ensures that the Foundation's mandate, ethics, values, and views are followed in relation to third parties.
- Initiates and develops a relational network with other NGOs that operate in the same field of activity
Collaboration with Management:
- Participates actively in weekly team meetings in order to contribute to project planning and effective implementation.
- Exchanges information with his/her line manager on a regular basis and assist with circulating information following normal communication channels.
- Participates in technical meetings with the Technical Unit.
Organizational Policies:
- Respects the Tdh’s Global Code of Conduct (GCD), Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP), Prevention from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Policy (PSEA) and Policy on Gender and Diversity and its principles of child protection, ensuring the policy’s implementation and prompt notification of the CSP/PSEA Focal Point with any information regarding potential breaches of the policy.
- Abides by and promotes the practices and values set out in all other Tdh policies and procedures such as the Internal Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures and other policies.
- Reports any breach observed in the framework of this policy during his/her professional activities both as regards the proven or suspected offence and a preventive breach.
- Undertakes all other duties that may be requested by the line-manager and that are compatible with the job.
Job qualifications, and competencies:
Academic Background: Degree in Psychology or counselling with psychotherapy, clinical and or counselling psychology work experience in working with vulnerable children, youth and adults.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in NGO or relevant work experience in psychosocial support/psychology, in clinical and/or direct practice settings.
- Experience in clinical supervision, training and or coaching others.
- Experience in team leading.
- Experience in assessment process , program design, evaluation and technical training as well as supervision
- Solid understanding of protection principles, case management and survivor-centered care in humanitarian settings.

- Fully understands the strategic plan, operational plans and logical frameworks of the different projects Demonstrate listening skills, flexibility, self-control, analysis and reasoning in situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, and safety of beneficiaries at all times
- Cultural sensitivity. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility.
- Ability to work autonomously, take initiative and responsibly manage issues.
- High level of planning follow up and analytical skills.
- Time management and Teamwork.
- Good Arabic and English skills (written and spoken).
