Researcher – Women political participation

Socio-Economic Enhance and Development (SEED) is a non-profit, secular, and non-governmental organization based in Tripoli, North Lebanon. 

The core value of SEED is to empower individuals and communities in order to create an independent and prosperous society. We give people a hand up, not a hand out. The way we do this is through projects offering education, equipping people with vocational skills, and providing information on matters such as health and legal. We encourage volunteering and delivery of services by the community, for the community.

 

 

Period of Performance: 20 sessions over 3 months (October – December 2021); 100$/session, for a total of 2000$.

 

The role:

As part of EPATL program (Enhancing Public Accountability and Trust in Lebanon), SEED NGO has been selected to conduct a research on women’s civic engagement and political participation in Greater Tripoli.

We’re looking for a Social researcher to design questions and support the conduction of 4 in-person focus groups of key stakeholders of the public sector (female/male employees, senior and not), managed by a facilitator, and analyse relative data. The ultimate goal is to investigate why, despite the high percentage of women working in the public sector, just a few achieve leadership/power positions. The researcher will be also asked to suggest the contents of future demand-driven training and online advocacy campaign (one documentary and two info graphics).  


 

Specific tasks:

  • Reviewing available data and literature;
  • Supporting facilitator in the conduction of 4 focus groups to gather relevant data;
  • Analysing and interpreting patterns and trends; produce a through report that depicts main obstacles to women political careers and participation, maps existing good practises and suggests the content of needed capacity building (ex. leaderships skills).

 

 

 

Qualifications and skills

  • Master’s degree in sociology, anthropology, political science or other related fields;
  • 2+ years of experience working as a researcher or research assistant; previous experience in women empowerment is a plus.
  • Sound understanding of research methodologies.
  • Experience drafting reports, policy briefs and/or academic papers;
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Attention to detail and exceptional written, verbal communication skills; independent.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is required for this position.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
