Social Behavior Change Specialist

Position Purpose

According to the KAP study, 66% of people think that people with physical disabilities should be included in society while only 26% of people believe so for people with intellectual disabilities. Given the prevailing negative attitudes and behaviors around disability and inclusion, the creation of a more favorable enabling environment in communities is key to the success of any inclusive program

 

To do so, UNICEF alongside MS will continue rolling out the Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) strategy that is based on the socio-ecological model of disability, and so addresses the negative attitudes and behaviors on inclusion of different key stakeholders. The Social and Behavioral Change Specialist (SBCS) will lead the roll-out of this strategy nationally
 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The SBCS will provide technical support to, coordinate the efforts of, and ensure the quality assurance of the planning and implementation of initiatives by the Social and Behavioral Change Officers (SBCO). More specifically, under the direct the supervision of the program manager of Mouvement Social and the technical supervision of the Communication for Development Officer at UNICEF, the SBCS will:

  • Oversee the identification, assessment and referral of Children with Disabilities (CWD) to appropriate services (Formal and NFE, Specialized services, CP, Health…)
  • Oversee and ensure the buildup/feeding into the inclusion service mapping
  • Provide technical support to the SBCOs, ensure that a participatory approach and a social model approach is adopted in the planning and implementing of all area-based initiatives. 

 

 

 

 

  • Ensure quality assurance and monitor the planning and implementation of inclusion activities (including stakeholders’ workshops, SBCC initiatives, etc...)
  • Regularly report to the Communication for Development Officer at UNICEF on progress, challenges, ways forward, etc

Working conditions

  • The Social Behavior Change Specialist will operate under the supervision of EDUCATION PROJECT COORDINATOR, in constant cooperation with head of centers
  • The Social Behavior Change Specialist will be based in Beirut office with frequent visits to the related areas of MS centers (Akkar, North, Beirut/Mont Lebanon, Beqaa, South and Nabatiyeh)

Performance will be evaluated by the Education Project Coordinator, in consultation with the programs coordinator and Human Resources Manager

Qualifications

Experience Requirements:

  • At least two years of relevant work experience in information management
  • Experience working in designing information management systems or database management, and analytic with computer skills
  • Experience in remote and blended learning is a plus
  • Work experience with open source programs
  • Experience in developing education information systems, databases and reports is a plus
  • Experience in working in a multidisciplinary environment

 

Education Requirements:

  • Advanced educational background in social science (sociology, social work, psychology, etc…)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work with people, build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders
  • Good facilitation skills to organize diverse workshops, meetings, etc.
  • Extensive experience in working with local communities on inclusion of people with disabilities using a rights based and social model of disability
  • Proven management experience and skills
