Lawyer/ Tyre- Part Time

Terre des hommes- Foundation (Lausanne) is in search for 2 qualified part-time Lawyers, based in based in Tyre with frequent travels to Saida, Nabatieh, Bent Jbeil for the project “Strengthening CP and GBV response services in underserved areas in South and Nabatieh within the framework of the Emergency response plan” for 9 months.

The Lawyer is responsible for providing legal assistance and consultation, including but not limited to: legal counselling and advice, support in dealing with legal procedures, mediation between parties, and legal representation, for protection orders and in cases relating to the penal code (births’ registration, marriage/divorce). The lawyer will support the cases and also liaise with religious judges and faith-based actors for issues related to family status law.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal guidance to girls, boys, men and women (Lebanese, Palestinian, migrants) who are in need of legal assistance, protection or other legal support, which includes: legal advice, legal representation mediation between parties involved.
  • Develop a legal action plan for each case in collaboration with the caseworkers.
  • Attend meetings and workshops/training when needed.
  • Conduct, guide, and train caseworkers with negotiations and/or mediation.
  • Conduct interviews with case-leaders, internally or externally, in order to assess their legal and urgent protection needs and guide them through the available and most suitable procedures for each case.
  • Train and support caseworkers and ensure accuracy, quality, and efficiency of the legal assistance provided.
  • Carry out visits to police stations and the palace of justice when needed.
  • Conduct legal awareness sessions to members of the community center.
  • Weekly reporting to the casework team on progress of case handled 
  • Draft, review, negotiate and administer legal documentations.
  • Liaise with external legal counsels and/or specialists.
  • Handle ad hoc assignments.

 

Organisational Policies:

  • Respect the Tdh’s Global Code of Conduct (GCD), Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP), Prevention from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Policy (PSEA) and Policy on Gender and Diversity and its principles of child protection, ensuring the policy’s implementation and prompt notification of the CSP/PSEA Focal Point with any information regarding potential breaches of the policy;
  • Is aware of, abide by and promote the practices and values set out in all other Tdh policies and procedures such as the Internal Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures and other policies;
  • Undertake all other duties that may be requested by the line-manager and that are compatible with the job;
  • The position reports to Project Manager and technically to Access to Justice Technical Officer/Legal Specialist.

 

Position requirements:

  • University degree in Law.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in similar position, preferably with an INGO, or multi-sector humanitarian relief or development projects.
  • Proven experience in legal advising.
  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Arabic essential.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office
