Socio-Economic Expert

TERRE Liban is currently implementing a project entitled “Enhance conservation of the Unique Biodiversity in the Bisri River Basin - Lebanon” funded by Bird Life International under the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (“CEPF”).

This project of 10 months’ duration aims to address the problems and threats of the many sources of pollution located in the Awali River Basin which are polluting the river and its surroundings such as olive oil liquid wastes, sewage waters, old quarries, and excess use of pesticides, etc. Other threats on the unique biodiversity include illegal hunting, off-road activities, forest fires and trees’ logging.

These problems directly threat the delicate balance of the valley’s rich biodiversity we aim to protect and unfortunately this area has not been prioritized by the governmental authorities to set protection measures and sustainable water management strategies in the area.

TERRE Liban is seeking to hire an Environmental Socio-Economic Expert responsible for studying the socio-economic aspects of The Bisri Valley through conducting field survey and meeting stakeholders of the region.

Scope of Work
- Conduct a Field Survey to define the region's economic activities and the related stakeholders
- Analyze the impact of the region's economic activities on the Valley's Freshwater Biodiversity
- Participate in the meetings with the local communities and stakeholders and get their recommendations on the previous study about The Bisri Valley river basin's threats
- Produce an updated socio-economic study of The Bisri Valley

Requirements

Education Degree:  Masters’ degree or PhD in Socio-economic Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Health, Public Health...

Qualifications:

- Outstanding writing and editing skills
- Proper knowledge of environmental issues
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic

Professional experience:

- At least 5 years of experience working as Environmental Researcher or a similar role.
