Radio Room Operator

Job purpose:

The Radio Operator operates the ICRC's telecommunications equipment. S/he maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles and people so that the delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.

The Radio Operator ensures the delegation's radio room functions without interruption 8 hours a day. S/he participates in security management and plays a role in security procedures.

Responsibilities:

Follows communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment.

Ensures constant contact with people moving in the field and takes appropriate action as stipulated under security rules and internal guidelines.

Proactively maintains information flow on security-related issues.

Updates lists of field movements, messages transmitted, etc.

Gives radio-related briefings if required.

Additional Duties:

Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments

Is aware of the delegation's objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position

Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC's understanding of the environment and security trends and responses

Represents the ICRC in an appropriate way during activities, in meetings and in the field, and avoids any activity that may reflect negatively on the ICRC's image

Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development

Certifications/Education Required:

Vocational training in electronics, telecommunication, IT or similar field an asset.

Very good command (spoken and written) of English, French is an asset.

Very good computer knowledge (Word, Excel) and ability to run specific software.

Professional Experience Required:

Good knowledge of the country and local terrain.

Some experience working with the ICRC is an asset.
