Background
In Lebanon, the social and gender norms, the shrinking civic space, and the discriminatory laws contribute to upholding gender inequalities and discourage girls and young women from speaking out. Formal and informal youth-led organization and women-led organization are facing a growing pressure from discriminatory social institutions, political figures, and religious leaders, that restrict their access to resources and opportunities.
Therefore, Amel association, as part of a consortium that includes, Plan international, TDH Italy, DCI Lebanon, and Dar el Amel are working together and using a gender transformative approach that aims at eliminating the structural barriers to gender equality, tackling the root causes of gender inequalities, working at all levels (grassroot, community and policy levels) to foster an enabling environment for gender equality and advance the position and conditions of girls and young women.
Assignment
Amel Association is looking to hire an Advocacy Trainer to conduct a series of workshops each consisting of 5 days, during the month of December 2021, for preselected groups of youths, between 20 and 35 years old, in South Lebanon (Saida, Nabatieh, Hasbaya, Khiam and Tyre).
The training will focus on Advocacy, Campaigning and Community Engagement.
At the end of the training, the participants will be able to identify and analyze GBV related issues and to advocate for a change. The acquired concepts will allow them to launch advocacy campaigns, using effective communication tools to convey the messages, and leadership to guarantee their success. All three skills will make it possible to achieve a collective set of goals for a progressive future.
Tasks and duties:
The training is expected to be guided by the following key considerations in the development of the training guide and its application:
- The role of youth in creating social change especially when tackling topics related to human rights, gender equality, diversity and inclusion, VAWG, men engagement and masculinities;
- The media strategies for awareness raising and advocacy purposes at different levels - how to tailor awareness raising and advocacy messages to fit into different offline or online platforms;
- How to assure the resonance, responsiveness and relevance of the final campaign plan to the needs of the communities and the project’s objectives;
- Best practices to deliver socially and communally sensitive messages in a strategic manner for maximum effect;
- New tactics and techniques, and how to use them effectively to highlight their work on awareness raising & advocacy campaigns;
- The training will guide the trainees in the development of their advocacy plan for the campaigns through the use of the tools provided by the trainer.
In coordination with Amel and Plan International, the trainer will be responsible for:
- Attending an induction meeting with Amel and Plan;
- Review the project objectives;
- Submit a clear and detailed methodology for the 5-day workshop including workshop materials, tools and an Agenda to be validated by Plan and Amel;
- develop and submit pre and post tests in Arabic to be validated by Amel and Plan;
- Conduct the training in which a pre/post tests should be administered to each participant to show the level of knowledge at the start of the training and the change - knowledge increase at the end of the training.
- Present a draft training report for validation by Amel and Plan
- Present a separate pre and post test analysis as an annex to the draft training report Submit a final report in English.

Minimum requirements that qualify a potential candidate to apply:
• Excellent knowledge on gender equality and masculinities concepts;
• Proven familiarity with Lebanese context with an good understanding of violence against women and girls and gender related issues;
• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively advanced professional experience in delivering trainings and working in the mentioned field (advocacy, social campaigning, strategic management, etc.) using participatory approaches;
• Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics and experience working with NGOs;
• Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; able to understand highly complex issues and translate them into simple, workable actions and plans;
• Experience in creating, designing, developing and monitoring advocacy campaigns online and offline related to human rights, gender equality, diversity and inclusion, women’s issues, men engagement and masculinities is a plus
• Excellent communication skills and high flexibility;
• Fluency in Arabic and English is a must.
