Speech Therapist (ST)

Reports to: Speech Therapy coordinator

Job summary: The Speech Therapist assesses children and develops individual or collective intervention plans. She/he conducts screening and testing, obtains diagnostic information, analyses information and makes recommendations regarding programs and follow up of children.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Identify children's developmental speech and communication difficulties/disorders as well as cognitive communication impairments, such as attention, memory, written language and problem-solving disorders.
  • Analyze information and develop individualized plan of care tailored to each child’s needs.
  • Give collective workshops to classes with the help of the educator in charge.
  • Collaborate with the educators to meet class needs in language skills, math, thinking or reasoning skills.
  • Regularly keep written reports of individual and collective sessions and share with the educational team and coordinators.
  • Observe students in class.
  • Help children with speech or cognitive problems develop strategies to overcome difficulties.
  • Plan and deliver training sessions if needed.
  • Keep up to date and informed of new trends and techniques developed. Take part in professional development sessions.
  • Train and monitor trainees in speech and language pathology throughout the school year: guide, follow up, correct assessments, and report to the university in charge.
  • Other tasks required by Speech Therapy Coordinator and Center Director

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Bachelor Degree in Speech Therapy, or other related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in Speech Therapy
  • Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English, French is a plus
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint..)
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Use a variety of material available or create new material.
  • Show empathy, patience and perseverance with the children.
  • Communicate sensitively, effectively, and positively with parents, taking into consideration the particular situation of the families of the area of the Education Center.
