Research & Advocacy Officer

Basmeh and Zeitooneh is a registered Lebanese organization, committed to serving refugees and vulnerable communities in Lebanon, through four community centers across the country. The organization runs educational, relief, livelihoods, and protection programs, and aims to serve as an inclusive and supportive focal point for the entire community.

Basmeh & Zeitooneh (B&Z) is hiring a new Research & Advocacy Officer to be based full-time in Beirut at the B&Z HQ in Furn El Chebbak.

Main Responsibilities:

• Monitoring and staying abreast of relevant human rights, humanitarian and political developments in Lebanon, the region, and Europe
• Development of various types of assessments and research methodologies
• Follow-up on data technical issues pertaining to data collection across all B&Z projects where the Advocacy & Research Unit is present.
• Generating data reports (tables/graphs/reports) from the database at regular intervals, ensuring reports/information are available for program implementation staff as required.
• Being responsible for Data Validation, Data Management, Data Analysis, and Data Visualization
• Training staff on appropriate methods of data analysis and visualization
• Maintain a close relationship with M&E colleagues and stay up to date with their work as necessary
• Assisting M&E in research methodology development and project implementation where necessary
• Assisting in translating content from English to Arabic and vice versa as necessary
• Suggesting policy recommendations based on research findings
• Preparing briefs, reports, presentations, and other written outputs in accordance with advocacy objectives; review as necessary.
• Participating in speaking arrangements and advocacy coordination calls as necessary
• Attend thematic seminars and other meetings as necessary.
• Seeking out possible partnerships with organizations with similar advocacy goals and strategies
• Assisting in the development of the advocacy plan for the Unit, and brainstorm & develop any projects that could be of note for the unit

Job Requirements:

• The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years of experience working for an NGO in a research capacity, and/or in M&E, and should present a savvy in dealing with local and international advocacy efforts specifically related to refugee rights.
• Specific experience working for a Refugee-led Organization is a plus. Intimate knowledge of the Syrian refugee crisis, the ongoing situation in Syria, and general previous experience working with Syrian refugees in Lebanon is a must.
• Knowledge of methodology building, research and survey design, research innovation, and prior knowledge of advocacy is highly desired.
• Priority will be given to candidates based in Lebanon, as well as candidates who have experienced forced displacement. Members of non-normative sexual and gender communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Candidates need to have fluency in both English and Arabic. Working knowledge of French or another European language is a plus.
• This position is a hybrid one – both remote and office work are highly encouraged, depending on the location of the candidate.
