Objectives of Study
The ‘Enabling Factors for Shifting to Agroecology in Lebanon’ study aims to understand, via the experiences of farmers, what leads to the decision to shift to a more closed farm system. In the context of the economic and financial crises facing the country, business-as-usual farming practices which rely on heavy use of inputs are no longer viable for many. Recognizing that the crisis context offers a ‘window of opportunity’ for shifts to agroecology, we will explore with farmers who have already done so what factors may have enabled them to do so. We hope to learn from these experiences and utilize them to organize support networks for other farmers to do the same across Lebanon.
Why are we filming?
In tandem with the written study, we feel it's important to communicate the stories of farmers to broader audiences who may or may not find written reports accessible. The general plan is to create a series of clips that can be showcased on our social media platforms and eventually our website. These clips will feature farmers explaining some of their agroecological farming practices they use on their land, why they decided to adopt these practices, and some nice shots of their farm. The number and length of clips is flexible, this will be dependent on the footage and depth of interactions with farmers. Jibal will provide the content and art direction to support videographers and editors who collaborate with us.
