Soft Skills Instructor for Coding Bootcamp

The Nawaya Network is an NGO based in Lebanon with various programs aiming to develop the income-generating opportunities of low-income youth. One of these programs is SE Factory (Software Engineering Factory). SEF is Lebanon’s top coding academy and tech recruitment organization. Its signature activity is the Full Stack Web Development program (FSW), which provides Computer Science graduates a full-time 12-14 week training program in the best practices of software engineering and develops their soft skills capabilities. In addition to receiving in-depth practical technical training, students accepted into the program also go through an intensive soft skills training to enhance their interview skills, CV writing, email writing, and public speaking, enhancing overall their professional behavior and work related knowledge skills, with the goal of graduating professional junior developers that are ready and adapted to the job market.

SE Factory’s 200+ graduates have had a 90% job placement success to date, getting hired by companies in over 10 countries.

The FSW Soft Skills Instructor works with the Lead Instructor on adjusting the soft skills curriculum, as needed, for each FSW bootcamp/training cycle, and will assist in the students evaluations, so that they are guided throughout the course’s 12-14 weeks until their final projects are submitted. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Key activities are included in the below list.

Soft Skills Curriculum, Quality Assurance, and continuous evaluation:

  • Lead the design of the soft skills curriculum in coordination with the program manager and Lead technical instructor, keeping the main beneficiaries’ capabilities and resulting level of knowledge in mind 
  • Analyze the potency and calculate progress in the training program.
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates and plan the training accordingly. 
  • Quality assure all deliverables from students before they are given to the team as per criteria agreed upon with lead instructor and program manager: CV (proofread and finalized), quotes, final project pitches, and all other required documentation agreed upon. 
  • Deliver and evaluate knowledge, skills and behavior training 
  • Conduct SEC (Student Evaluation Committee), based on SEF learning framework, meetings with the lead instructor and other team members to evaluate every student on bi-weekly basis or as needed. 

Cohort Soft Skills training 

  • Use the following tools to continuously communicate with students and team members: Slack, Zoom, and the Google package (email, chat, meet,..) among others. 
  • Report on student progress, keeping track of their ability to learn, their needs, communication skills, engagement level, and general attitude
  • Deliver lectures as per the curriculum provided twice weekly, 2 hrs per session, unless agreed otherwise with lead instructor and/or program manager.. 
  • Channel team discussions and feedback into constructive program amendments that lead to satisfactory outputs and outcomes 
  • Assign projects on a weekly basis, engaging students to help them better understand themselves as valuable professionals in the future and test their public speaking, mindset development, job interview questions and business english skills.

Communication and knowledge sharing:

  • Document on the SE Factory google drive all products created and generated throughout the course, including but not limited to, curriculum changes, course structures, evaluation sheets, videos shared with students, and any other document.
  • Maintain and document student/candidates attendance and performance records in soft skills classes and resulting actions. 
  • Carry any necessary communication required with potential guest speakers and external participants in coordination with the team 
  • Receive broad guidance and stay accountable for multiple soft-skills related program milestones and overall program results.

Note that the above tasks are not exhaustive, and you may be called upon by management to fulfill other tasks whenever necessary.

Skills and Experience

Minimum five years relevant experience, delivering either communication, intercultural or interpersonal skills training and or coaching sessions.

A committed, professional attitude to training, work in general & managing clients/customers, with a growth mindset. 

High knowledge of the latest approaches and techniques regarding  resume writing, interviewing and job performance trends.

Big Plus if..

Have experience with university students, or clients from the same age group as SE Factory students (avg. 19 to 25 years old)

Connection and/or familiarity with the tech industry and the startups ecosystem. 

Have some knowledge in the realm of psychology,  personal development, and professional coaching
