Organizational background and mission brief
Mada is a non-partisan, non-sectarian Lebanese NGO, established and registered in 2000 in Lebanon which aims to reinforce the relationship between local communities and their natural environment for the satisfaction of their substantial needs.
The Communication and Dialogue trainer will work under the project “Reducing tensions and improving social stability at the community level through active youth participation and community support interventions”, funded by Japan. This project is implemented by IOM in partnership with Mada Association.
The Project activity aims at: providing one training session to the community oversight committee members which includes Syrian and Lebanese youth; the training will include a session that is both theoretical and practical (2 hours) in each of the two villages in Akkar.
The Communication and Dialogue trainer will conduct the session in two different locations in Akkar on two different dates (Bebnine and Sammouniyeh).

Definition of the Mission
- The overall objective of this Training is to strengthen the ability of the communities and the municipal members to mitigate tensions and prevent conflict.
- The training will be conducted in one session in each village: date and time will be decided by Mada Association
- Activity: Capacity building sessions on communication and dialogue, with focus on conflict resolution, will be held to further promote cooperation among the two communities, with focus on enabling the members to then act as agents of change in their communities, transferring these values and skills to others for a chain reaction effect
- The training will be provided to the committee members (group of 15 Syrian and Lebanese youth and 2 municipal members).
The contents developed during the classes should be based on the curriculum prepared by the trainer and should include, but not limited to the following:
- Introduction to communication and constructive dialogue in conflict sensitive environment
- Non-violent communication and active listening
- Relationship-building
- Promotion of dialogue facilitation
- Negotiation and mediation
The Trainer shall prepare a Pre and Post Test to evaluate the improvement in communication skills of the committee members (group of 15 Syrian and Lebanese youth and 2 municipal members).
The trainer shall be responsible to prepare a proper presentation for the content and shall ensure an active session including real life examples.
The content of the curriculum should be validated by Mada Association
Deliverables at the end of the mission
- Attendance sheet
- Pre and post test results
- Report and recommendation
- Curriculum and the presentation used.
The language of the training shall be in Arabic.

Education and knowledge required
- Bachelor degree in public relations, communications, journalism international relations, political science, or other related domain – Master’s degree is a plus;
- Proven experience in the design, development, and delivery of similar trainings related to conflict sensitivity and non-violent communication.
- Ability to tailor training modules to the specific needs of trainees.
- Strong knowledge of the Lebanese context and the implications of the Syrian refugee crisis.
- Profound knowledge of conflict transformation and consensus building with Syrian and Lebanese and a good grasp of the concept of conflict sensitivity.
- Experience in designing questionnaires, evaluation forms and pre and post-tests.
- Interpersonal skills that evoke trust and cultural sensitivity.
Terms of payment and advantages
- Service fees (including transportation):
Payments will be made at once, upon the completion of the session and delivery of the pre and post-tests results as hard copies. The trainer will provide Mada with an invoice including her/his fiscal number in order to receive the payment. If she/he has a fiscal number. If the trainer does not have a fiscal number, Mada will be responsible for complying with the competent tax authorities therefore a 7.5% of the total amount received by the trainer will be deducted to be paid by Mada to cover the trainer’s taxes.
