PURPOSE
The GIS Data & Analytics Officer supports and monitors the data management processes of Water and Habitat (specifically) and the metier (generally), collects, analyses, stores and displays all relevant geographic information available internally and externally necessary for GIS mapping to enable evidence-based decisions and improvements in the area of data entry, quality, support and analytics. S/he produces standard and ad-hoc maps required by colleagues in the delegation in support of the Data & Analytics Manager 1
Education required and experiences:
- Technical college or University degree in GIS/ Data analytics or related field
- Knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS Pro / AGOL/ QGIS), BI, SQL, Python, Statistical package
- Willingness of self-education in GIS and IT tools
- Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of French is an asset
- Computer proficiency
- Typically, 2-3 years’ overall professional experience
Main Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibility for data quality of the department’s operational data;
- Supports data-driven research initiatives of the department, where applicable in close coordination with the delegation’s epidemiologist and the Centre of Operational Research and Experience (CORE)
- Acts as Data Focal Point of the department within the global Water and Habitat community
- Identifies and addresses proactively the need to improve data literacy among colleagues on an individual basis within the department, and/or proposes trainings for the whole department
- Consolidates project-specific Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEAL)data at department level, analyses to draw lessons learned, shows up avenues for improvement
- Produces maps and geospatial analyses in support of colleagues across the delegation, ensuring continuity and smooth data conversion between different tools and systems;
- Contributes to the development of data models and maintenance of the geographic referential and operational data that supports geospatial analyses;
- Consolidates specific geospatial data for the countries covered in collaboration with regional/global colleagues;
- Contributes to institutional reporting and dashboards by supporting colleagues in delivering reports, revisions and optimization
- Raises colleagues’ awareness of the power of data & analytics and GIS tools, provides trainings, and supports mobile data collection.
