Hygiene Promoter (x3)

Job Overview:

The Hygiene Promoter will work under the UNICEF-funded WASH project implemented in partnership with Lebrelief. Mada will be responsible for Hygiene Promotion and other soft activities (including community mobilization) in specific areas of T5.

Under the management of the Activity Manager, the Hygiene Promoter will be responsible to increase the community’s WASH knowledge, awareness and in Informal Settlements. In the initial phase of the project, he/she will be embedded with Lebrelief’s team and will be trained on the processes, procedures and tools that should be used to ensure proper implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

General

  • Ensure proper and close coordination with Lebrelief’s WASH team throughout implementation.
  • Work closely with Lebrelief for the entire project cycle for eventual handover, understanding the context and needs of the areas.
  • Plan and conduct assessments on WASH and hygiene among communities. 
  • Collect data, analyze, and report findings and develop an action plan to address key identified issues. 
  • Identify facilitators within the communities and conduct training, ensuring regular monitoring and follow up of progress as well as ongoing capacity development.
  • Mobilize, organize and supervise, through facilitators or other means, members of the communities to take ownership of maintaining best practices in personal, community and environmental hygiene. 
  • Conduct participatory hygiene promotion sessions within communities, Informal Settlements, schools, groups of persons with specific needs, according to age, gender and diversity, community-based committees and other groups, such as duty bearers and stakeholders. 
  • Participate in the planning of global events celebrations.
  • Promote hygiene education through a variety of means, such as information sharing, dissemination, and communication materials. 
  • Provide support to the distribution of hygiene items, and conduct monitoring and follow up to ensure proper usage of items and appropriateness. 
  • Maintain full qualitative and quantitative records and reports of activities, disaggregated by age, gender and diversity where appropriate. 
  • Provide regular written and verbal reports to managers upon request. 
  • Support in all emergency action plans.
  • Activate WASH committees in the Informal Settlements.
  • Identification of beneficiaries requiring other services and full follow up of referral to other services.
  • Conduct assessments following an emergency upon the request of the line manager.
  • Participate in the COVID-19 response through assessments and distributions of IPC, disinfection and hygiene kits and conducting of awareness sessions to the beneficiaries.

Reporting:

  • Report any type of problem encountered on the field
  • Immediately report to the Activity Manager any problems or information that could affect the projects/activities, including security aspects.
  • Submit regular reports on the progress, challenges and action plan of the activities.
