The quality and research officer will assist the Quality, Research and Development unit in projects related to quality, training, and research in addition to advocacy and awareness raising in palliative care.
1. Main functions and duties:
Research Tasks:
Has knowledge of research and analytical methodologies and ability to demonstrate practical application of both qualitative and quantitative approaches through project based work
Conducts literature review and summarize findings
Identifies research questions and designs small scale research projects.
Accurately interprets data and research papers
Writes research proposal including application for ethical review
Has knowledge of and conducts quantitative data analysis
Uses computer software in the analysis and presentation of information
Analyzes and write research results accurately
Communicates research findings with different target audience appropriately
Quality Tasks:
Identifies best practices in standards of practice in palliative care
Drafts, evaluates and reviews policies related to clinical care and risk and safety management
Reviews and analyzes literature to select clinical tools as needed
Conducts chart audit and collect data for clinical indicators
Has knowledge of and basic experience in using performance and process improvement (PPI) methods (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA)
Has knowledge and basic experience in using tools to display data or evaluate a process (e.g., Pareto chart, run chart, control chart)
Has basic knowledge and skills in using statistics to describe data
Analyzes quarterly operational and clinical indicators and assist in identifying gaps in performance
Assists in setting and implementing quality improvement plans including data collection, training of nurses, monitoring and evaluation, and follow up with team on project progress.
Other Tasks:
Assists in developing and implementing project proposals covering different aspects in palliative care: trainings, awareness raising, advocacy, policy and service development that aim at strengthening palliative care in Lebanon and the region.
Coordinates and follows up on project implementation and deadlines
2. Skills
Good skills in quantitative research (data analysis and use of statistical softwares)
Basic skills in qualitative research is preferred
Good project management skills
Good organization and time management skills
Good communication skills
Willingness to learn and adapt to change
Very good command of English
Knowledge about palliative care is a plus
3. Requirements
Master’s in public health (biostatistics focus is a plus)
Minimum of 3 years of public health experience including experience in quantitative research
