Maintance Agent – Hermel

Main Purpose:

Perform repair / maintenance / construction works, according to the supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards, in order to ensure proper operations and prevent faults / deterioration of MSF equipment / installations / infrastructures.

Specific Activities :

• Carry out all minor works (construction, repairs, etc.) requested by the line manager, as well as any task identified by the employee and approved by the line manager.
• Perform regular maintenance of MSF installations / equipment / infrastructures (base, house, store, warehouse, health centre, hospital, etc.), particularly in line with a preventive maintenance plan (procedures to follow, schedule, etc.).
• In the event of faults / deterioration, diagnose the problem and propose possible solutions to the line manager and/or technical adviser.
• Perform any necessary tests / checks to confirm the proper operation of the installation or equipment after repair.
• Ensure effective management, protection and care of work tools (including site installations under the employee’s supervision) and keep the workshop tidy.
• Ensure that there are adequate stocks of consumables and materials for minor repairs and manage those stocks; placing orders in time.
• Keep all documents related to installations / equipment / infrastructures in order and update them regularly.
• Immediately inform the line manager of any problems that arise in the course of the work, particularly with regard to damage, loss, theft or attempted break-ins.
• Assist logistics department for any related work needed.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:

• Ensure that all equipment and machinery found on MSF premises are operational.
• Monitor equipment performance and perform the necessary maintenance (inclusive of preventive maintenance)
• If assigned a guarding post (door or gate), remain at proximity and never leave it without prior approval from the line manager
• Use fire extinguishers properly and know their location.
• Ensure that premises and vehicle windows are closed in the event of rain.
• Inform the line manager of the arrival of any materials before unloading.
• Verify that security lights are working properly and inform the line manager of any problems.
• Check daily the fuel and water tanks, gas cylinders, and drinking water bottles.
• Check daily the fuel, oil, water, and filters status of the electrical generator and maintain data on the logbook.
• Keep the area within and in front of the premises clean (empty dustbins, sweep paths, etc.).
• Keep communal areas clean (rest area, shelters for drivers, etc.).
• Perform general upkeep of the garden (cut grass, maintain flowerbeds, prune trees if necessary) when needed.
• Preserve the provided equipment and inform the line manager of any loss or damage.
• Inform the line manager of any security-linked problem(s).
• Assist with the loading and unloading of goods/materials and help MSF staff carry heavy items.

Requirements

Education

Technical studies or certificates in maintenance of equipment is needed

Experience

Desirable 2 years previous job-related job experience.

Desirable previous MSF or I/NGO experience.

Languages

Arabic language is essential; Foreign language is desirable.
