Protection Assistant - Individual Protection Assistance

DRC has been responding to various humanitarian crises in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees. DRC received registration from the Ministry of Interior in 2011, and since then has focused primarily on responding to the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon and the resulting impact on Lebanese host community. DRC Lebanon’s focus is to ensure that we are able to respond to critical emerging humanitarian needs whilst improve the living conditions of displacement-affected populations and contribute to the achievement of durable solutions.   With an annual portfolio of $12million, and with approximately 200+ staff,  DRC is focusing its response in protection and economic recovery (Ec-Rec) sector in Bekka, North Lebanon and Beirut. DRC is also contributing to the evidence base and coordination structures in country through our Evidence Generation and referral information management (RIMs) teams

About the job

The overall purpose of the role is to conduct outreach activities for inclusion of beneficiaries into DRC programming, to deliver sensitization and awareness raising sessions on protection-related topics, support in data collection within communities and provide individual protection assistance to persons with urgent protection needs, including emergency cash for protection where relevant. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct outreach to identify persons with protection needs, prioritizing the most vulnerable, marginalized and invisible community members;  
  • Conduct sensitization and awareness raising sessions on key protection issues based on identified needs;  
  • Identify and refer persons with protection or other needs to appropriate services in line with safe identification and referral principles; 
  • Provide individual protection assistance to persons with urgent protection needs, focusing on the most vulnerable, including older persons at risk, women at risk (excluding GBV survivors), children at risk (excluding child protection violations) and persons with disabilities; 
  • Provide emergency cash assistance to address urgent protection concerns to eligible individuals, set a clear protection objective and follow-up on the impact of assistance; 
  • Collect, store, maintain and analyze protection data produced through outreach, community consultation, RIMS, individual protection and cash assistance in line with safe and ethical information management principles.  
  • Collect data on the individual and community-level, including through surveys, Key Informant Interviews, and Focus Group Discussions 
  • Draft individual work plan and participate in regular supervision, information sharing and coordination meetings.  
  • Support the Protection Team Leader with reporting processes, budgeting and needs and gaps assessments where relevant. 
  • Ensure the proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies) during prevention and PSS activities (attendance sheets, permission slips, consent, referrals etc.); 
  • Use IM tools and online platforms for timely and accurate data entry of the activities. In collaboration with IM colleagues, make sure data is properly entered, accurate and complete, to ensure proper analysis of the data.  

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a Bachelor in Social work, Counseling, Psychology or other related field. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in community-based protection, including outreach, awareness raising, providing cash for protection and safe identification and referrals; 
  • Excellent understanding of protection principles and do no harm principles; 
  • Basic understanding of data collection methods; 
  • Experience working with diverse communities in various settings; 
  • Excellent facilitation and sensitization skills, good understanding of key protection issues in Lebanon; 
  • Excellent communication and psychosocial first aid skills; 
  • Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible working hours and able to handle pressure well; 
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel); 

Preferred qualifications:

Previous experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings is a plus.
