TECHNICAL COORDINATOR - CHEF

The Technical Coordinator / Chef will work under the anticipated GIZ-funded Cash for Work project detailed below:

Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city, has been hit hard by the multilayered crisis currently affecting the country. To help the most vulnerable members of the marginalized communities of Bab al-Tabbaneh, Jabal Mohsen and surrounding neighborhoods to retain their dignity, and build their resilience during these difficult times, Ruwwad Al Tanmeya is undertaking a cash for work project divided into two lines of activity. The first line of activity aims to mobilize Ruwwad Al Tanmeya’s community kitchen, Atayeb Tarablos, whereby daily workers will prepare, package, and deliver daily meals and preserves baskets that will be distributed to vulnerable families in several neighborhoods over 3 cycles. Each cycle is 3 months long, including one month of trainings, and 2 months (40 working days) of production. A second line of activity tackling light rehabilitation is also planned. This will include daily workers working on 6 initiatives over 3 cycles (2 initiatives per cycle), after a month of training. A steering committee will be established to consult and accompany the implementation of the project.

 

Job Description:

  • Establish good work relations with the daily workers and the team.
  • Assess the skills of each of the daily workers.
  • Plan the menu for the cycle.
  • Create and develop a training curriculum on food safety, kitchen safety and food preparation.
  • Deliver and conduct the above trainings to recruited daily workers in each cycle.
  • Distribute roles in the food preparation process
  • Establish and implement the work schedule in the kitchen and for the food preparation process.
  • Coordinate with the team regarding the ingredients and raw materials needed for the food preparation.
  • Oversee the food preparation.
  • Ensure that the preparation of the daily meals, the presentation, and the quality are up to the required standards.
  • Guide the daily workers and the team and ensure a comprehensive and continuous learning process through daily practice of the principles learned in training.
  • Enforce personal hygiene guidelines and kitchen and equipment cleanliness guidelines.
  • Visualize and work to achieve the goal of the project.  
  • Report on key deliverables with the kitchen project coordinator.

 

Qualifications, Competencies and Skills:

  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian and NGO principles.
  • Experience of kitchen equipment and of dangerous equipment such as knives.
  • Ability to manage a medium-sized team with frequent turnover.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
  • Strategy and organization skills.
  • Leadership skills to lead the team rather than control it.
  • Team spirit and ability to maintain good relations with the team.

Competent level of Arabic spoken and written. English is a plus.
