Part Time Afternoon Teacher Position (Skate and Create Program)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for one exceptional and inspirational teacher in part time to work in our upcoming basic literacy and numeracy program in cooperation with Skateistan.

Focus should be on Math and Arabic.

The core project's kindergarten curriculum is is based on Waldorf Education, therefore potential candidates should be open for adapting to the bases of this educational approach. We are looking for teachers to work  for four days per week for two hours in the afternoon with two groups of children over the course of a year plus preparation, reporting and monitoring time, in our building in Sabra, Beirut.

The first and foremost responsibility of the teachers is to create a safe and calm space for the children to refresh, to have the possibility to do age-appropriate art work and picking up basic literacy and numeracy for children who dropped out of school or have not attended school at all. ´The teachers will be concerned with the overall wellbeing of the children in the program, and they have to be able to care for and respond to the children’s individual needs, as well as promoting and supporting the educational principles of Waldorf Education.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

The role of the teacher is to provide the best possible educational support and duty of care for each student in the light of the values and objectives of Just.Childhood. This includes the following tasks and responsibilities:

  •  The Teachers have primary responsibility for the overall welfare of the children in their care
  • Adhere to the Principles of Teaching and Learning as indicated by the Waldorf curriculum
  • Promote an environment of dynamic, active and genuine learning
  • Employ a variety of effective teaching strategies
  • Differentiate the curriculum to ensure the needs of all individuals in their classes are met
  • Give adequate time to lesson planning and organization
  • Be aware of course requirements and their directions
  • Reflect on the effectiveness of their teaching
  • Keep accurate records of students’ attendance, progress and assessment
  • Monitor each student and inform students of their progress
  • Maintain good communications with parents concerning the progress of their child
  • Attend Parent/Student/Teacher interviews
  • Submit lesson plans and records to Program Manager, as required
  • Curriculum and Resource Development 

Teachers are expected to: 

  • Participate in the creation, development and evaluation of curriculum
  • Be aware of existing resources including Learning Technologies and, where possible, participate in the creation, development and evaluation of resources for the implementation of the curriculum.

 Professional Development 

Teachers are expected to: 

  • Keep up-to-date with curriculum and resource development in the teacher’s area(s) of teaching.
  • Have a commitment to learning and personal professional development in the teacher’s area(s) of teaching.
  • Attend appropriate seminars and courses and participate in subject or area association meetings as appropriate.

General, Administrative and Other Activities 

In addition to the normal load of a teaching, teachers are expected to:

  • Attend Assemblies
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Occasionally relieve other Teachers if required
  •  Attend Staff Planning and Professional Development Days.
  • Measures of Good Practice 

Teachers at Just.Childhood are expected to maintain exemplary practice in the educational enterprise in which they participate. Key features of good practice for a teacher include:

  • Excellent and responsive relationships with students marked by mutual respect and professionalism.
  • The provision of high quality curriculum.
  • The provision of educational opportunities and activities which enable all students to achieve their highest potential.
  • Excellent collegial relations.
  • Mentoring of teachers new to Just.Childhood.
  • Mentoring and coaching of teachers new to Just.Childhood and the profession.
  • Regular participation in professional development courses and programmes.
  • The teachers are expected to work with the other Kindergarten and school educators, assistants, administrative staff.
