Anti-Racism Movement (ARM) is a non-governmental organization working to dismantle systemic racism and achieve social, economic, and gender justice for migrant workers and racialized groups in Lebanon since 2011. Migrant Community Center (MCC) is a safer space for migrants living under Kafala. MCC works with migrant domestic workers to improve their living and working conditions and build their capacities to self-advocate for their rights as agents and leaders of change. Its programs include community-building, capacity-building, psychosocial wellbeing, community-led initiatives, and advocacy.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract Type: full-time staff, one year contract, renewable.
Job Purpose
To disseminate ARM’s discourse, demands, and values and tailor the language, media and tactics to different target audiences.
Areas of Contribution & Related Accountabilities
Communication Strategy:
- Develop the Communication Style Guide for ARM and MCC, in close collaboration with the MCC and Advocacy Managers;
- Contribute to the development of an overall social media strategy and monthly social media plans for ARM and MCC, and ensure the inclusion of migrant women as media-makers;
- Contribute to the development of social media policies and procedures for ARM & MCC;
- Assess and enhance ARM staff and migrant workers’ social media & communication skills;
- Track analytics to gain insight on traffic, demographics, and effectiveness of posts and campaigns, in order to assess performance and improve future strategies and tactics.
- Actively manage ARM’s website and ARM social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) by: posting created and shared content, replying to comments as ARM, forwarding where necessary, flagging important reactions to management, interacting with audiences in a responsive and professional manner, managing flow of information, troubleshooting, etc.
- Oversee the performance of the social media pages of MCC, and advise as needed, and carry out regular performance check-in meetings (ex: quarterly) with focal points at MCC;
- In coordination with the Advocacy Manager, ensure consistency of ARM’s discourse in all published materials, interviews, protests, and social media messages.
- Research and implement ways to measure trends in media coverage of migrant worker issues
Content Development:
- Develop and regularly revise the talking points for ARM’s work, each department’s work, each advocacy and communication campaign, and any arising pressing issues related to domestic workers and migrant communities in Lebanon;
- Lead on the creation of visual content by hiring external support and providing guidance and feedback;
- Draft a regular newsletter for ARM and MCC with a focus on rallying support for our overarching goals;
- Develop engaging public campaign stories and actions to generate public support for the cause;
- Contribute to the development of campaign strategies and timelines in coordination with ARM management and staff, including but not limited to the use of social and traditional media as campaigning tools;
- Coordinating & editing content creation by staff members (e.g. articles to post on website)
- In coordination with the Advocacy team, draft and translate content for campaigning including talking points, testimonies, and press releases;
- Contribute to the development of organizational publications for internal or external audiences (e.g. coordinating Annual Report, editing studies, etc.)
- Archive existing relevant publications, identify information gaps and select strategic research topics to be explored with staff/consultants/student;
- Draft and send invitations to media & supporters lists in order to share statements, success stories, upcoming events, etc.
- Prepare & translate materials for media kits;
- Connect with local and international editors, journalists and broadcasters.
Content Dissemination:
- Disseminate ARM’s discourse, demands, and values online and offline, and tailor the language, media and tactics to specific target audiences;
- Act as one of the several spokespeople for ARM and MCC in media interviews, public talks and discussions, panels, forums, etc.;
- Prepare staff members for media interviews (general training for all staff, and individual preparation for key appearances when needed);
- Prepare and share relevant content with the Programs team for dissemination to donors and external partners.
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the translation of materials and payment of translators;
- Coordinate the creation of visual materials (video, photo, illustration) and the payment of the creators;
- Coordinate the improvement and maintenance of the website and payment of the web developer;
- Attend weekly team meetings and actively contribute to decision making;
- Attend biweekly General Staff Meetings and contribute to the development of the Advocacy Team’s presentation at those meetings;
- Properly document all communication outputs in a transparent and accessible manner for all ARM staff to be able to consult any information they require;
- Report on indicators related to social media once a month.
Communication & Work Relationships
Internal Communication
- Regular contact with the Advocacy Manager.
- Daily contact with Advocacy and Communication Officer.
- Regular contact with MCC Manager and staff, and Casework Managers and staff.
- Regular contact with domestic workers and migrant activists.
- Occasional contact with the Directors.
External Communication
- Regular contact with ARM’s online followers.
- Regular contact with media representatives
- Regular contact with website manager, designers, illustrators, videographers, photographers and other consultants/service providers as needed
- Occasional contact with research partners, activists, ARM supporters, NGOs, and other stakeholders as needed
Framework, Boundaries, and Decision-Making Authority
The jobholder suggests possible solutions to the Advocacy Manager for final decision-making, and takes necessary actions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Migration or a related field (or equivalent years of practical experience directly relevant to the position);
- At least 4 years of experience in a directly relevant position;
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of migration issues and the situation of migrant workers in Lebanon;
- Good working knowledge and understanding of advocacy, public policy, and local politics;
- Excellent organizational and management skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Excellent analytical skills, strategic thinking, and macro-level thinking;
- Independent decision maker, proactive, and self-motivated;
- Excellent command of social media tools. Good command of WordPress, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop or Illustrator, is a significant advantage.
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English & Arabic. Good command of written and spoken French is a significant advantage.
Schedule and Salary
- Schedule: 40 hours/week. 2 days off per week.
- Salary: $1,750 - $2,100 / month, depending on experience
