Senior Livelihoods Assistant

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes and direct supervision of the National Program Officer (Emergency, Recovery and Resilience Unit), the incumbent will be responsible for the following activities:

 

  1. Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of Livelihoods project activities
  2. Monitor budget implementation and propose adjustments as necessary.
  3. Provide technical input on livelihood interventions, including local labour and market assessments to help ensure activities are market-based, and that the role of IOM has been strategically determined in consideration of its comparative advantage vis-à-vis other partners.
  4. Provide inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and concept papers and provide general support for the development of new projects.
  5. Travel to project sites on a regular basis to monitor project activities, implementation partners, and ensure that activities are being carried out in accordance with livelihoods guidelines and report any non-compliance to the supervisor.

  7. Prepare field reports and other relevant reports relating to livelihoods and make recommendations for interventions that enhance the targeted population’s economic inclusion.
  8. Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
  9. Participate in meetings and conferences; maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, associations, chambers of commerce/ industry, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors, and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
  10. Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions; prepare training materials and participate in the delivery of capacity building workshops, specifically in facilitating orientation meetings, business trainings and/or counselling to support in the formulation of business plans;
  11. Organize and conduct feedback surveys to identify project issues and improve future livelihoods projects and prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation to provide guidance to improve delivery of livelihood-based activities;
  12. Develop and maintain internal control and compliance processes and draft recommendations on how to strengthen those controls.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

• School diploma with six years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
• Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups;
• Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
