Context & Background
Berytech is a leading organization in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Lebanon, that aims to provide a conducive environment for the creation and development of startups, through incubation, business support, counseling, funding, networking, and the company hosting, hence taking part in the economic revival of the country, participating in wealth and job creation, and retaining graduates and high-level skills in Lebanon.
Program Background
NEX-LABS intends to contribute to the creation of a sustainable and resilient agri-food sector based on NEXUS driven Open Living Labs (NDOLL) approach, thus strengthening technology transfer, cooperation industry- academia, increasing commercialization opportunities and innovation.
Services
The activity will be given in the form of trainings on site by the 2 trainers, coupled by experts' interventions and site visits (to be defined and coodinated with Berytech). The trainers should be able to manage an interactive bootcamp including business, technical and entrepreneurship sessions adapted to the Water, Energy , Food nexus sector in the Mediterrenean region and support the participants in developing their business model, commercialization opportunities and investment pitch deck.
Purpose
In the context of EU funded Nexlabs project, Berytech is organizing an entrepreneurship regional summer school for researchers and innovators in the field of Water,Energy and Food nexus.
To lead on an intensive 5-days summer school event that aims at building capacity for entrepreneurs and startups (from differents countries) innovators, researchers, academia to turn their innovations into startup projects and explore entrepreneurship and commercialization opportunities addressing NEXUS challenges and opportuniies in the EU-Mediterranean Partners Countries region.
The summer school will feature 13 to 15 teams on average in total from 7 countries. Each team may be composed of 2 participants. One team will be selected from each of the following countries: Spain, Italy, Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan, Cyprus and the rest from Lebanon.
Scope of Work
1. Overview of the WEF Sector:
- Innovation driver in the WEF Sector
- How to enter the Mediterranean Water-Energy-Food Nexus and build a thriving innovator cohort
- Understanding the relationship between Water Energy and Food system
- Importance of the nexus in the region
- Understanding how the climate change in the Mediterranean is affecting the nexus.
- WEF Nexus case studies and business models
- Hands on exercices and case studies and examples from the region
2. Business Model:
- Business model creation
- Business model mapping
- Business model canvas
3. Marketing and Customer Orientation
4. Intellectual Property rights and commercialization process:
- Introduction: research, innovation, industry, IP, and protection of IP
- Different types of IP
- Patents
- Commercialization strategies
5. Go to market stratgy and market validation
6. Building financial projections
7. Pitching:
- What is a pitch.
- How to make an effective pitch to investors presentation
- Hands on exercices.
Deliverables
A report is expected to be received at the end of the summer school and a pitch deck should be developed by all participating teams.
Timeline
The program should be held between June 27th and July 8th, 2022 over 5 consecutive days.
