Executive Director (ED)

About Tahaddi

Tahaddi is a Lebanese NGO established in 2008 whose aim is to respond to the challenges of urban poverty by facilitating access to education, health and psychosocial support. Tahaddi works in Hay el Gharbeh, Southern Beirut with families facing extreme socio-economic hardship. Tahaddi operates community-based centers (focused on non-formal education, psychosocial support and health). In addition, it runs an income-generating sewing workshop. 

Reports to: Tahaddi Board of Directors

Location: Tahaddi Lebanon’s administrative offices, Southern Beirut (Hay El Gharbeh)

Work type: Full-time (Monday – Friday, 8:00-4:30 PM)

Starting Date: Immediate opening

Position summary:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will provide strategic leadership to the organization to ensure it continues reaching its mission of service to the community of Hay el Gharbeh. The ED will have overall responsibility for the staff team of over 60 members, Tahaddi’s financial operations, program implementation, and donor relations. The ED will closely work with and be supported by Tahaddi’s center directors and management team.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Board Relations:                         

  • Responsible for leading Tahaddi Lebanon in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission
  • Ensure active communication with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on internal and external issues that impact Tahaddi by providing all information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions
  • Submit annual budget and program plans for approval in a timely manner
  • Work closely with the Board Chair to prepare for the annual general assembly meeting, ensuring financial and programmatic presentations are available 

Fiscal Management, Human Resources and Operations:

  • Ensure the fiscal integrity of the organization by overseeing the development of a comprehensive annual budget; ensure funds are administered according to the approved annual budget and that the organization remains within a positive financial position
  • Monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization and approve expenditures in line with donor budgets in coordination with the finance team and the internal auditor
  • Promote the safety and security of all centers, ensuring they are well maintained; identify and evaluate the risks to the organization, advising the Board in a timely manner and implementing measures to mitigate risk
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources (HR) Officer, identify staffing requirements working to attract and retain talent in line with HR best practice

Program Implementation and Development:

  • Ensure the impactful growth of the organization and oversee the implementation of the Strategic Plan at the organizational level
  • Work closely with Center Directors, providing oversight and support to ensure the smooth and effective day-to-day operations of Tahaddi Centers
  • Oversee the timely and smooth roll-out of complex projects
  • Work with center directors to ensure timely, effective program monitoring and reporting
  • Build and maintain a network of relationships with donors and partners
  • Work with the Director of Program Development, ensure Tahaddi’s financial needs are met and support the development of new strategic partnerships to secure ongoing donor support
  • Represent Tahaddi at relevant stakeholder events

Reporting & Communications: .

  • Ensure Tahaddi’s visibility with donors and partners
  • Provide oversight to ensure Tahaddi’s social media platforms are active and up-to-date, and newsletters are regularly published
  • Ensure donor communication requirements are met

Qualifications:

  1. Education: University degree in a relevant field, with a preference for a Master’s in a relevant/related field (such as Community Development, Social Sciences, MBA)
  2. Experience: At least 10-15 years of related experience working in the non-profit sector, with at least 5 years working in a senior managerial role                 
  3. Technical knowledge: Technical training in community development, NGO operations and best practices; preference is given to individuals with demonstrated knowledge of urban poverty programming
  4. Managerial skills: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, good public speaking, excellent writing skills; knowledge of project management for development results
  5. Languages:  Full language proficiency in English and Arabic; French is desirable 
  6. Other skills: Proficiency in MS Office software
