Among the functions and the results s/he is expected to achieve:
- Record and document all financial transactions.
- Manage all project accounting databases to ensure timely upkeep, follow up and control
- Maintain ongoing analysis, forecasting, and review of project expenses.
- Manage all kinds of payments for staff, consultants, vendors, grantees, and subcontractors in accordance with Mousawat’s accounting procedures and contract policies.
- Submit monthly expense reports to the Financial Manager and Executive Director.
- Oversee procurement transactions in accordance with each project’s contract.
The main responsibilities and tasks of the Accountant are:
Accounting and Management
- Carry out the day-to-day financial operations and transactions.
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document all project transactions and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain and coordinate the implementation of standardized accounting control policies and procedures.
- Follow up on the budget development of each project and accordingly reviews processes in collaboration with projects staff and Managers.
- Support and monitor staff responsible for budget lines accounts so as to enable them to carry out their roles effectively.
- Conduct regular site visits to all project field locations and carry out audits where necessary and when requested by the FM.
- Manage and ensure timely payroll for local staff and other due payments.
- Perform monthly cash reconciliations and various balance sheet account controls to ensure accuracy.
- Assist the Internal Auditor to perform initial financial department audits to insure accuracy.
Financial Reporting
- Ensure relevant, timely and accurate financial reports.
- Manage the finance activities and schedules to meet the financial reporting deadlines.
- In coordination with the FM, communicate with partner organizations in order to establish best financial reporting practices.
- Prepare financial reports on utilization of grants from external donors, as they are required (including original receipts, tenders, exchange rates, etc.).
- Support the external auditor to ensure timely audit report statements.
- In coordination with FM and/or the ED, perform periodic reviews of partner organizations’ financial functions, and support them when required.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and expenditure projections to each project.
Financial Systems
- Ensure the presence of adequate controls over cash and bank holdings.
- Cooperate with program management department and review the financial field systems.
- Oversee the proper protection and recording of Moussawat’s program assets.
- Recommend, develop and maintain the protection and backup of financial data bases, reports and receipts and an adequate filing system.
- Perform other duties as assigned by his/her direct supervisor.

- At least 2 years accounting experience preferably in a nonprofit environment.
- Good working knowledge of English and relevant technical usages.
- Computer skills including Excel and /or other accounting software.
- Ability to work with multi-tasked teams and complex projects.
- Able to take initiative and work independently.
- Experience in working on nonprofit project accounting.
- Experience of working with donor organizations.
- Familiarity with donor reporting requirements.
- Effective communication skills.
