The Opportunity
The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Specialist provides technical guidance and oversight on implementation across Save the Children’s portfolio in Lebanon with a focus on MHPSS. The MHPSS specialist will work closely with the MHPSS Programme Manager to ensure technical quality implementation of MHPSS programmes.. The position holder is expected to work closely with field operations teams across Lebanon to identify capacity gaps and support teams in ensuring high quality programmes implementing PSS – community based PSS and focused non-specialized PSS-activities and referrals to Mental Health services. The position holder will also work on mainstreaming Mental Health and psychosocial support across sectors. S/he will be expected to strengthen partnerships with other MHPSS actors and develop the capacities of staff, partner staff in MHPSS. S/he must be proactive, results oriented, able to manage a large workload and work with diverse range of people. S/he will be expected to work in SC’s field locations at least 50% of the time (Bekaa Valley, North, Beirut & Mount Lebanon).
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
In order to be successful you will bring/have:
- Bachelor degree in social work, psychology, child protection, or related field or equivalent experience. Background in Child psychology / Psychology is strongly preferred.
- Proven written communication skills.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in direct implementation of MHPSS programming with children, adolescents/youth and/or caregivers or relevant experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of key MHPSS, Child Protection, Humanitarian Assistance, gender, and Global Development issues including disaster response, humanitarian assistance, conflict affected populations, and other related areas.
- Thorough understanding of MHPSS including Global framework, Guidelines, technical content, M&E frameworks, & capacity to train teams in various setting on MHPSS.
- Experience providing technical support and management of MHPSS programs.
- Knowledge of key MHPSS resources & experience facilitating key MHPSS trainings across the IASC MHPSS pyramid.
- Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work across boundaries.
- Proven ability to lead collaboratively.
- Demonstrated knowledge of development and humanitarian crisis impact on children’s protection, health, education, and overall well-being.

- Experience working in a range of Middle East contexts and countries.
- Ability to synthesize and develop high-quality knowledge products from diverse data sources including programmatic materials and tools; outstanding gender analysis skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships across cultural and organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders, and managing through influence.
- Works collaboratively with team members to drive forward progress.
- Strong English and Arabic communication and writing skills are essential.
- Comfortable working independently with little supervision, as well as with receiving and accounting for direction and engaging as part of a dynamic team.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to Save the Children’s Mission, Vision and Values. Previous experience with child rights programming is an asset
- Adhere to Child Safeguarding policies & procedures
- Computer literacy including Internet, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
