Hydrolic Engineer

Major Responsibilities:

Studies and Information:

Lead surveying and assessment of existing water schemes directly through available data, measuring hydraulic values, and building/calibrating models.

Supervise and assist technicians and skilled workers in conducting network tapping and leak detection campaigns.

Collect findings in Geographic Information Systems in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures.

Ensure Management Information Systems, especially Workforce Management Systems, are utilized effectively and reflect operations accurately.

Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports. Actively documenting and analysing progress, plans, achievements, and challenges, where they are immediately communicated and processed for recommendations.

Implementation:

Lead the design and implementation of rehabilitation and upgrade works recommended, revised by WV technical specialist and approved by the BWE.

Support the head of office in planning fieldwork and coordinating with other departments of BWE.

Supervise maintenance works implemented by technicians and skilled workers within the jurisdiction of the assigned duty station.

Ensure that infrastructure works in the field comply with contracts, designs, standards, and good practices.

Capacity Building:

Support the assessment of BWE’s local office operation and maintenance teams, equipment, and practices.

Actively participate in training on surveying, maintenance, rehabilitation, design, modelling, and other relevant skills and support BWE’s technicians and skilled workers through continued coaching.

Support the implementation of improved WE service improvement, operation, maintenance, contract management, and workforce management processes.

Handle Information Management / Reporting:

Prepare a daily report and keep track of the daily progress of works.

Ensure that all infrastructure data is well managed and provides an accurate representation of the reality on the ground.

Validate the accuracy of the data, and the quality of the Infrastructure interventions.

Submit regular reports to the Infrastructure Team Lead.

Prepare Progress Technical Reports.

Prepare change orders and ask for approvals.

Perform other duties as required:

Responsible of own security and actively contribute to a positive security culture.

Report CP incidents as per the safeguarding policy guidelines.

Abide by the security policies and procedures and report any incidents or breaches to line manager and / or security manager.

Perform other duties as assigned by Line Manager.

Knowledge/Qualification for the Role:

Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in water/infrastructure related works as consulting, contracting, operations, etc.

Good coordination skills and proven experience in working with external stakeholders, i.e. water establishments, municipalities, etc…

Strong English and Arabic communication skills (oral and written)

Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexible worldview, emotional maturity and physical stamina.

Ability to work in and contribute to team building environment.

Ability to maintain performance expectations in psychologically stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with limited resources

Good organizational and time management skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Ability to cope and work under pressure.

Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural and difficult / sensitive contexts.

Strong knowledge of core principles of Children Rights, Participation, Do No Harm

Bachelor of Engineering (BE) a/o Master’s Degree in the following: Civil, Mechanical, Hydraulic Engineering, preferable specialized in ‎water, sanitation, and renewable energy a/o environment.

Knowledge of renewable energy and solar power systems.

Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Professional skills in CAD, and ArcGIS

Good skills in Hydraulic Modelling software.

45% office work 55% field work

Position requires willingness and ability to continue to function during a crisis situation, including during a World Vision response to a manmade or natural disaster

Field visits are essential part of the job

Ability to work in harsh weather conditions

Good written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic languages.

Attend internal and external projects related meetings including the meeting with the team, contractors, sector, donor, and local authorities.

Attend and participate in capacity building trainings locally and internationally.

Attend and participate in WVL’s spiritual nurture and other organizational events.
