Operational Volunteer – Space Project

The GIZ SPACE project is looking for an Operational Volunteer to support the project operation in Beirut. The volunteer will ensure support in the day-to-day project implementation of the project for the period from September 2022 to February 2023.
The GIZ SPACE project is a regional project, with offices in Amman, Jordan, and Beirut, Lebanon. The SPACE project promotes the participation of youths in different processes in society. The project aims to empower young women and men, in particular, to make a positive contribution to shaping the society around them. Among others, the project is supporting youth groups in different municipalities in Lebanon to decide and implement measures in their social environment.
The volunteer ensures a culture of communication and cooperation, contributing actively to the operations of GIZ SPACE, and will receive an action plan and regular feedback organized and implemented by the responsible project officer.
- Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Knowledge: Formal Education
- university degree in International Marketing, Economics, or Social Sciences or equivalent
- interest and passion for the participation of youth in Lebanon
curious, tenacious, and with attention to detail
- embracing challenges and a positive work attitude
Other qualifications:
- previous work/volunteer experience is a plus
- previous GIZ experience is a plus
- previous experience in youth work, participating in conferences or workshops a must
- excellent understanding of youth policy in Jordan and Lebanon is a must
- previous work/volunteer experience with INGOs or NGOs is a plus
- creative, open-minded team player with a strong willingness to learn
- ability to think and work independently and work precisely with attention to detail
- initiative, sound judgment, and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds
- constructive and positive attitude, problem-solving mentality
- good verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic
- good working knowledge of ICT and Microsoft 365
- The volunteer will support in the following:
- assist SPACE project officers in Beirut in the daily operational tasks, including:
- support organizing and implementing conferences, workshops, and other events.
- prepare partner or GIZ-internal meetings
- prepare partner visits in the whole country of Lebanon
- assist in writing PR releases, minutes of meetings, taking pictures in meetings and other necessary documents
- assist in communication with implementation partners
- assist in writing meeting documents as preparation as well as follow up
- support in the internal knowledge management
- assist in the preparation and planning of internal and external events at country level
- perform other tasks assigned by the SPACE project officers according to operational demands of the SPACE project
Duration: 6 months (September 2022 – February 2023)
Description of the project: The new project “Social Participation and Community Engagement by Youth” addresses that young people in the MENA region are only involved to a small extent in shaping their society; they lack opportunities to shape their society peacefully. The project advises and supports partners, particularly from the civil society sector, at the micro and meso level in selected regions of Jordan and Lebanon on the topic of youth participation and sustainable peaceful conflict resolution.
