Legal Consultant - WOMEN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT FOR LEBANON PROJECT (WEEL)

The Lebanese economy needs more than ever a productive private sector capable of driving economic recovery, create jobs, and support a fragile balance of payment by producing local goods and services, increasing exports and diversify export markets.

In this context, the WOMEN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT FOR LEBANON PROJECT (WEEL) aims at Supporting Women-Owned And Women-Led Businesses In Lebanon by providing between 8 and 20 MSMEs and startups with grants that vary from 15,000 to 50,000 Euros to be used for expending investments, covering expenditures and getting technical assistance.

This project is part of a larger programme, the EU for Women Empowerment (EU4WE), a 36-month programme (October 2019 – September 2022) funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France. It aims at promoting full and unconditional equality between men and women in Lebanon. The specific purpose of EU4WE is to reduce gender-based violence through women’s empowerment and enhance existing institutional mechanisms working towards gender equality.

This project is committed towards non-discrimination and promotion of gender equality, diversity and inclusion, and equal opportunities.

As part of the implementation support Berytech is providing, the project is looking to fulfill a technical assistant required by one of the beneficiaries.

The SME beneficiary is an educational platform for learning and teaching in both formal and non-formal education settings. It was founded in Lebanon by a team of educators and works to empower teachers and learners with the needed tools, resources, and support to develop 21st-century skills.

The technical assistance requires an experienced legal consultant to provide legal counsel on incorporation and investment, including trademark assistance and legal representation for 12 months.

The legal consultant will be requested to provide the following key deliverables:   

• Drafting, reviewing, amending, and negotiating all contracts on behalf of Client.
• Drafting the annual minutes of the General Assembly and the Board of Directors, and other minutes if needed.
• Providing legal advice on any matter requested by Client and related to company business in Lebanon, including all written and verbal advice, communication, emails, calls, personal meetings, etc.
• Drafting, reviewing, or amending of Terms of Use and Privacy Policy for one Platform/Website per contractual year.
• Registration of one Trademark in Lebanon per contractual year.
• Assist and follow up on the registration process of the SME Beneficiary Trademark in Jordan, Egypt, and UAE.
• Provide legal consultancy to the SME Beneficiary on matters related to incorporation of an entity in UAE, and advise on matters related to potential rounds of investment in the Lebanese and UAE entities

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

• B.L Bachelor of Law or any higher degree in law is a plus.
• Proven experience in Trademark registration.
• Proven experience and Knowledge on the UAE business transactions legalities.
• Proven experience in related to incorporation of an entity in UAE, and advise on matters related to potential rounds of investment in the Lebanese and UAE entities
• Excellent moderation skills.
• Excellent English and Arabic speaking and writing skills.

The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities between August and September 2022 (TBD).

• Technical proposal (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in section: “Objectives and key activities,” elaborating it further.
• Financial proposal clearly describing the package and price proposed by the consultant.
• Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs shall be included as annex) along with project references on the topic.
