Market Analysis Specialist

Planning and implementation:

  • Design the methodology for market analysis on the vegetable value chain in Akkar, that clarifies the study work plan, objectives, outputs and tools for reaching all required stakeholders
  • Conduct an in-depth market assessment on the vegetable value chain in Akkar, including desk review of secondary date and primary data collection
  • Analyze the quantitative and qualitative data on different actors in the value chain (farmers, vegetable wholesalers, the Ministry of Agriculture, and other stakeholders) to identify changes, gaps and needs in supply and demand in the vegetable value chain(s), and generate trends
  • Design a market monitoring system for vegetable value chain(s) for use and reference by farmers and Concern in the project areas
  • Identify opportunities within the sub-sectors with a weighting matrix to prioritize them into practical action and a work plan for operationalizing the market monitoring system
  • Suggest and disseminate recommendations that will shape future development interventions and assistance on vegetable value chains and improved market performance in the project area
  • Outline the impact on marketing channels (both formal and informal markets) of vegetables and related products, and disseminate this information to farmers and other stakeholders
  • Generate price patterns, variations and trends and highlight the causes of the price variation, and disseminate this information to farmers and stakeholders
  • Assess the consumer behaviors based on cultural habits, preferences, and outline the shift to new behaviors related to the vegetable value chain and disseminate this to farmers

 

Representation:

  • Participate in food security and livelihood sector working group, including sharing technical information as appropriate

 

Other:

  • Participate in Concern initiatives such as preparation or updates of Preparing for Effective Emergency Response (PEER) plan, Security Management Plan (SMP), etc. 
  • Take active measures to address equality issues, particularly relating to gender, in programme as well as operational activities.
  • Ensure the highest stands of accountability through ensuring good communication and information sharing within and outside the organisation.
  • Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s policies and procedures (P4, finance, logistics, HR, security management etc
  • Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Livelihoods Project Manager or Concern Management Team

Essential

  • Master’s degree in business, or agriculture business, or similar from an accredited University.
  • 2 years of working experience with an NGO or UN agency, preferably in agriculture field.
  • Experience or knowledge of agribusiness and marketing channels in agriculture.
  • Experience in analytical research, including planning, data collection and result dissemination
  • Experience in report writing, with good communication skills, in English and Arabic.
  • Experience of using Microsoft office, particularly Word and Excel.
     

Desirable

  • Experience liaising and collaborating with vegetables stakeholders is a great advantage
  • High ability to be pro-active with tasks and duties, foreseeing challenges and delays
  • High ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure, prioritize tasks to meet tight deadline

Good communication skills with different stakeholders (farmers, wholesalers, middleman, ministry of agriculture, ministry of trade)
