Social Worker

 

Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is a non-profit, non-political and non religious humanitarian NGO. Its objective is to provide a comprehensive response, in line with humanitarian principles and applying both needs based and rights based approaches, to conflict affected populations. PU-AMI promotes humanitarian access and dialogue with all components of the civil society and reinforces the capacity of each vulnerable community (refugees, vulnerable host community) to become self-reliant and resilient, by responding to immediate needs and strengthening their socio-economic empowerment.

 

Today, PU-AMI is intervening in 22 countries in Africa, the Near East, Caucasus, Asia and the Caribbean to cover the needs of populations affected by conflict, natural disasters or economic crises.

 

PU-AMI in Lebanon has been implementing emergency and recovery projects in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, in Shelter Rehabilitation, Health, Protection and in Livelihood Recovery sectors.

OVERALL MISSION

1- GENERAL OBJECTIVE

Under the direct supervision of the Protection Technical Advisor, the Social Worker (SW) is in charge of the implementation and supervision of community-based activities, including life skills, key community members, awareness sessions and the management of the outreach volunteers in the zone of intervention.

 

 

Based on the context and in case of emergency, the SW is deployed to PU-AMI Covid-19 emergency response and collaborate with the health team.

2- RESPONSABILITIES AND TASKS

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Social Worker is responsible for the implementation of community-based activities and promotes community mobilization and participates to community-based events. The SW provides support in the design of the life skills and awareness sessions plans and tools and is in charge of conducting life skills sessions. In addition to the management of the daily activities of the Outreach Volunteers, the SW is responsible in identifying the key community members in the area of intervention, design and conduct trainings for them on protection related topics.

 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE AND LINKED ACTIVITIES

 

 

1. COMMUNITY-BASED PROTECTION AND AWARENESS RAISING ACTIVITIES

                  

  1. Identify primarily active community groups and persons/role models/key informants/volunteers;
  2. Conduct training for KCM (i.e. Protection core Concepts, Safe identification and referrals; Disability and Inclusions etc.);
  3. Plan and organize assessment of needs (i.e. FGD, PA, interviews and outreach activities);
  4. Plan and implement life skills sessions for the targeted populations;
  5. Provide information on the services available to refugees and vulnerable host communities;
  6. Refer, when needed, PoCs attending Community based activities to the Case Workers;
  7. Propose and support community-based events, in coordination with Community Volunteers, other teams and partners, aiming to raise awareness on protection topics;
  8. Contribute to the development of communication material on protection topics (i.e. Key Community members, Life Skills, Awareness sessions);
  9. Supervise daily the Community Outreach Volunteer’s activities;
  10. Gather all the referrals from Community Outreach Volunteers and regularly share them with the Case Workers;
  11. Gather all data from the OVs (i.e. attendance sheets, time sheets, IDs, etc.) and share them with the Protection Technical Advisor and other relevant departments for the preparation of agreements and remunerations when applicable;
  12. Conduct field monitoring visits regularly to provide support to the outreach volunteers & to ensure quality implementation;
  13. Train the outreach volunteers on protection related topics;
  14. Plan and request the materials needed for the activities to the PTA;
  15. Actively contribute to the design on activities aimed at building the capacities and knowledge of PoC, such as Life skills sessions and Awareness sessions.

 

 

2. DEPLOYMENT TO EMERGENCY RESPONSE

 

  1. Participate in sensitization activities at community level, in coordination with Community Volunteers and the Health team, on protection issues but also on COVID-19 related precautions measures.

 

 

3. COORDINATION WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ACTORS

 

  1. Organize information meetings in concerned municipalities to present PU-AMI Protection intervention and explain the role of the Social Worker;
  2. Contribute to the protection mainstreaming in activities implemented by other teams at base level through the provision of protection trainings;
  3. Regularly coordinate with the Referral Officers, and actively contribute to the maintenance of an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area of implementation;
  4. Participate in trainings, case conferences and meetings in coordination with the Protection Technical Advisor.

 

4. REPORTING

 

  1. Provide monthly and Quarterly activity reports to the line manager;
  2. Conduct analysis the pre-post tests for all activities;
  3. Ensure proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies);
  4. Shares information on field-level successes and challenges with the line manager;
  5. Report on progress of protection activities to the line manager;
  6. Report on any trend related to protection and propose adaptation measures.

 

The tasks and responsibilities defined in this job description are non-exhaustive and can evolve depending on the project’s needs.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Language skills: Fluent in Arabic and good command of English (speaking, reading, writing)
  • Education degree: Social Sciences License or equivalent diploma
  • Work experience: 2 years, preferably with NGOs
  • Knowledge and skills:
  • Good knowledge of Protection minimum standards, Protection principles and PSEA
  • Good knowledge and experience in Community-Based Protection Activities
  • Capacity to building meaningful relationship among the communities
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Contextual awareness
  • Computer skills: Good command of Word and Excel
