Psychologist ( Consultant ) - Tyre & Sidon

JOB SUMMARY

Psychologists are core members of the healthcare team at Caritas Lebanon. They are responsible for the provision of all mental health services relevant to their scope of work; thus, they can work either/and in community settings, shelters, PHCCs, retention centers. Psychologists function within interdisciplinary teams alongside Doctors, Nurses, Social workers, Animators, Psychomotor and Speech therapists, and Psychiatrists.

MAJOR DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

General Skills

In relevance to the direct field of expertise for all psychologists:

  • Ability to provide structured clinical assessments and clear case formulation: Assess the needs of the beneficiaries on the cognitive, behavioral, emotional levels
  • Ability to use standardized assessment tools
  • Use relevant psychological tests and assessment instruments when relevant to the need of the beneficiary and the expertise of the psychologist
  • Provide initial clinical diagnosis if relevant to the need of the beneficiary and the expertise of the psychologist
  • Ability to developing a consistent and acceptable treatment plan with clear objectives in relevance to the need assessment with a logical and consistent timeframe that includes estimated dates for case evaluation, closure and post support check-up
  • Using different relaxation & stress management techniques
  • Discuss and share the care plans with the multidisciplinary teams in order to insure the provision of a comprehensive holistic care plan, and highlight relevant recommendations
  • Provide continuous psychological support and when possible, structured therapy settings
  • Ability to recognize mental health priority conditions as per the mhGAP 
  • Provide individual support, and/or group support
  • Specialized in at least one evidence-based approach (e.g., CBT, Trauma Focused-CBT, IPT, EMDR).
  • Monitoring and evaluating the psychological progress of the client
  • Provide Psychological First Aid for beneficiaries in crisis or during emergency settings
  • Provide proper internal and external referral, with post-referral check-up
  • Maintain proper documentation of mental health services provided as per the policies of the health department
  • Maintain irreproachable levels of confidentiality
  • Participate in all internal meetings scheduled by the Health department
  • Participate in all relevant internal trainings scheduled by the Health department
  • Conduct an individual assessment of each OV to determine the capacities, skills and mental health well-being
  • Ensure that the OVs are aware and practicing self-care
  • Conduct group assessments or focus group discussions with OVs to learn about the challenges they encounter, coping mechanisms, suggested solutions and their understanding of MHPSS and self-care
  • Conduct a refresher on safe-identification and referral of cases in need of mental health services
  • Identify profiles of cases to be handled by OVs as part of their implementation of group PM+
  • Suggest the number of persons each OV should conduct group PM+ with per session and per week/per month 
  • Draft the supervision flow and referral process between the psychologist, case manager, OV coordinator and OV, and the supported cases    

In relevance to the specific setting in which the psychologist is engaged

  • Follow up with a select number of Outreach volunteers on the project implementation
  • Support in training and coaching of the OVs
  • Provide ongoing technical support and supervision to the volunteers and team
  • Coordinate with CM team and other actors on the identification of cases (based on agreed on criteria or profiles)

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Academic:

  • MA in Clinical Psychology
  • A completed clinical training/practicum in a university center consisting of at least 100 hours of training under supervision and 300 hours of applied training
  • Obtained a Lebanese colloquium certificate for clinical psychologists
  • Obtained a License to practice the clinical psychology profession from the Ministry of Public Health

N.B: A letter of recommendation from a senior clinical psychologist supervisor (holder of a doctorate and/or a scholar) and membership in one of the registered psychological associations of Lebanon is preferable.

Related Work Experience: 3-5 years of related experience
