UNWFP - Beirut - Gender and Social Inclusion Officer NOA

Job Purpose

The National Programme Policy Officer (Gender) will serve within the Programme Unit under the supervision of the Gender Officer at the WFP Lebanon Country Office. The main purpose of the position is to advance the strengthening of gender equality and social inclusion efforts, based on all relevant WFP policies and guidelines across the Lebanon Country Office and Field Offices’ activities.

Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer (Gender Officer), the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Support the implementation of the WFP Lebanon Gender Action Plan and related GEWE initiatives.
  • Support safe and good equality data procssessing, including data collection, storage strcuture and data  cleasing;
  • Contribute to research and analyses, including through carrying out desk reviews and compiling good gender equality / transformative practices in humanitarian and development contexts; s;
  • Support capacity strengthening initiatives for WFP Lebanon and Cooperating Partners on gender equality and women empowerment with an emphasis on gender transformative programming, gender analysis, gender responsive monitoring, Gender and age marker monitoring exercise, gender responsive budgeting, gender integration in the Cooperating Partners’ activities and reporting
  • Assist in the design, visualisation and the implementation of knowledge management products
  • Coordinate and input to the presentations and factsheets for the donor missions and WFP management.
  • Strengthen the WFP Lebanon and Cooperating Partners’ staff capacities on gender equality and women empowerment with an emphasis on gender transformative programming, gender analysis, gender responsive monitoring, Gender and age marker monitoring exercise, gender responsive budgeting, gender integration in the Cooperating Partners’ activities and reporting
  • Facilitate activities with gender and human rights and other related inter-agency groups;
  • Coordinate with programme units to obtain necessary data and information for the report;
  • Consolidate gender and social inclusion data and input to WFP’s weekly report, monthly sitrep and annual reports
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Data literacy – the ability to handle large datasets, analyse and present key findings
  • Knowledge in creating infographics and well-branded reporting products
  • Strong analytical skills and independent thinking:
    • Being able to bridge macro perspectives and operational issues
    • Experience in analysing data and information about context and affected populations in order to make recommendations for improved programming – preferably in relation to gender and social inclusion.
    • The ability to analyse linkages between programmatic concerns/decisions, and broader humanitarian and socio-political context
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point); Experience utilizing computer programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, data capture systems and other software packages and systems
  • Excellent teamwork skills in a multicultural environment
  • Detailed work style and strong work ethics

Standard Minimum Qualifications: 

Education: Advanced University degree (i.e. Master's degree or higher) in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Political Science, Development Economics, Statistics, or other relevant field or First University degree in a relevant field (i.e. Bachelor’s degree) with additional years of related work experience or training/courses.

Experience:  One (1) or more years of postgraduate professional experience (after completion of Advanced University degree) in in humanitarian context including experience in gender and social inclusion or other related fields. Experience building and managing partnerships, including developing proposals, soliciting input for reports, drafting agreements, producing visibility plans and/or crafting joint strategies is highly desirable, or, three (3) years or more after completion of First University degree.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in Arabic and English. Fluency in another UN language is a plus.
