Mental Health Case Worker - Kamed EL Laouz PHCC

Amel Association International (Amel) is a Lebanese and non-sectarian NGO created in 1979. Amel works through 32 centers, 6 mobile medical units, 2 mobile education units and 1 protection unit, and for 43 years has supported the poorest regions of Lebanon, from Beirut and its South Suburbs to Mount Lebanon, Bekaa and South Lebanon. Amel offers accessible services for all in the following fields: food security, health, education, protection, child protection, gender-based violence, livelihood, promotion and protection of human rights, rural development.

Jop Purpose

The Mental Health Caseworker is part of the mental health team and works closely with the mental health nurse, psychiatrist and psychotherapist. He/She supports the team with mental health screening, assessment, medication administration and follow up.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ability to conduct a full assessment of a person’s needs including mental health needs and refer people in need of mental health support/treatment to the proper mental health professional within the PHC’s mental health unit.
• Effectively assess and support persons in crisis.
• Provide appropriate individualized psycho-social support sessions and psychoeducation to beneficiaries when needed and their families.
• Provide patient's case-management. Ability to identify and mobilize resources in the beneficiary’s family/community.
• Provide patient's care coordination within the PHC's multidisciplinary team.Facilitate the integration of MH into primary health care (PHC)in coordination with the PHC’s head of center.
• Organize outreach activities within the PHC's catchment area and provide awareness sessions inside and outside the PHC.
• Participate in network/coordination meetings with key actors, NGO’s/INGO’s, local authorities, hospitals etc.
• Act as the PHC's focal point for matters related to MH cases referral.
• Report on mental health and data collection, respecting deadlines.
• Participate in related training and internal meetings.
